OPTIMISM!

But severe criticism on here does filter to the terraces as its in peoples minds in the pubs before games and pops out as soon as theres 1 bad pass

It's that sort of stuff that I find entirely ridiculous.

I meet up with friends pre-match and not one word would ever pass our lips about our internet activities of the week. It might be the only time we ever meet, we've a sight better things to catch up on than some internet threads.
If there are people who gather simply to discuss their social media presence then I apologise btl (I always imagine such twats never leave their house), but I think you're allocating way too much importance to forums/phone ins etc. Gone and forgotten once the green green grass of BDTBL comes into view.

Two days? 90 minutes should suffice.

You can have a 200% pay rise. Not interested?!

But Willie - there is a marked difference between a finite capacity, expressed as a fraction out of 100 and a multiplier suggesting how proportionally something has increased by.

I too get miffed by people saying "I'll give it 110 %" because they cannot do so it's a physical impossibility.
You can give everything
You can leave nothing out there on the pitch
You can give your all
you can work your bollocks off
but you cannot give more than 100%

There is always more to give, if your prepared to push yourself, you have then raised the bar/increased the capacity so to speak, if your already the best can you not get better? of course you can now stop being negative, is your glass half full or half empty? UTB

Couldn't agree more on the 100% thing. That's it, the max, there is no more.

However, I have never come across anyone who has worked so hard his bollocks have literally dropped off either, unless it was that "lass" I met in Tiffany's that time, definitely no bollocks but a suspiciously hairy arse..

Which annoys me as much as forecasters saying "there's a lot of weather about". Of course there is, there always is, nobs. (too much coffee in the canteen for me at lunch time I think)

Oh yes please. But if I can work and increase my productivity by 200% it means I was only working at 50% capacity in the first place not giving 100% before the rise! ;)

Well that's one (very literal) view.

I'm pretty sure Harry Redknapp once praised his players for giving a million per cent.

Feel free to explain anything else we may not have understood.

Daz , agree with the optimism bit.

In London / Bournemouth working and couldn't get up to Walsall last night , so decided to go to the Orient match , and as a neutral see how good Barnsley are , with the new energy , confidence , they have with a change in manager.

Barnsley had a couple of shots on goal , but overall looked as poor as us . The overall thought is that all teams in this league can beat each other , and all are a much of a muchness , with the exception Imo of Bristol , Preston and MK Dons. These 3 teams have been through a bad run , and have not really turned us over. Swindon gave us a bit of a thrashing hitting us for 5 goals , but we ( like on many occasion ) created our own downfall.

From a play off aspect there are two places up for grabs . Two teams out of the top four are not going to get automatic , and if this goes to the wire , two teams will be going into the play offs , disappointed , deflated , and having to pick themselves up to go again .

The teams that finish 5th and 6th , which i feel will be the Blades and Peterborough , will go on to play in the final. Why - because they have both being playing so poor , that one of them will win the final , due to being so bad and unpredictable .

The Blades gaining a point in away games Imo is the correct strategy , and what is critical , ( as we all know , and Clough , players as much as us ) is getting home wins , which is achievable , but we have had too many unacceptable bad results at home , but we are still there , as other clubs have been as crap as us.

I am not mystic meg , but again we have been so poor , but still in the mix , and thankfully this season , this league is full of poor , shit , inconsistent teams exactly same as us , if not worst.

Conclusion , with no planned strategy of thinking ( because i know nowt about football management ) , the Blades will get promoted.

The consequence if wrong - Clough has got to go , as there will be no better chance than this season , and under Clough leadership and long term infrastructure planning it may be the 2018 / 19 season , if he was still around ., we achieve our goal of promotion . . A manager with league 1 promotions on his CV , would have to be the target if we fail this season.

With regards the players , who have signed because of Clough . They will have to remember , if we don't make it , it was them who got him the sack.

UTB
Have you now accepted automatic promotion is beyond us? If so do you wish to settle the charity bet now or wait until it's mathmatically impossible for automatic promotion to be achieved?

ghandi , me dear chap fella . I have not accepted that we will fail with promotion . Still along way to go , but results have been worrying . Lots of points to play for , with or without Clough .

We will win the play offs .

Lets keep saving the pennies until we know what division we will be in which will be the championship.:D

There was the lad that jumped over the wire fence when wearing shorts and hadn't realised the damage ............O_o

thats you , unfortunately theres plenty prepared to carry on where they left off on line
those that start fights among fellow blades, or openly slag a player off for the first mistake
some cant change from 6 days of slagging us off to a 3 hour truce

If we get to the playoffs, and I hope we do we will see a different SU and the reason for that is crowd size, our best games are when we have a full house let's hope we fill the ground, and make it as noisy as it was for Tottenham UTB

Some people need to chill the fuck out. Every defeat is met with wrist slashing bile in much the same way as every win is followed by tales of how we're going to march on to untold glory. It's no wonder some are ready to jump in the bath with the toaster after a few bad results.

It's not just us, it's every forum, phone in, blog, terrace and Twitter hashtag in football.

There are indeed some "overreactions" on here ..... borne out of frustration, I believe. However, don't mistake negativity for realism.

Setting aside the poor tactics and performances, atmosphere can be toxic at the Lane at times. We've seen how the players can perform when the pressure is off against the likes of Spurs. They've got it in them to do so. But I wouldn't fancy a risky pass in front of a baying crowd, I'd take the easy sideways pass myself.

I think we have identified that we are capable of performing against "higher league " Clubs, that's not the problem. The problem is that our current squad is not suited to slogging it out in this agricultural division, which is the BIG issue !

I have to say, my optimism is wavering after the Crewe defeat :(

I'm by nature a very optimistic character but that performance has seriously dented it, I couldn't find any positives at all, I hope we can get back on track by beating the dingles this weekend, UTB!

was seething last saturday night, but a defeat might stop us getting lax
rather win at barnsley out of the 2

Right, come on guys it's time for some optimism, we all know we've been playing bad, we're all aware it's going to be tough to stay in the play-offs and indeed win them given our current form, but we do still have a very good chance of promotion, we CAN do it, keep believing get 110% behind the team and the management for the remainder of the season!! let's all hope things "click" and the lads come into some good form for this run in and end by giving us what we all dream about and win promotion at Wembley!! COYRAWW

Hmm. Only joined S2 4SU last August, eh? We'll have none of this 'optimism' nonsense spouted on here! It's not the way we do things in S2-land.

Full first team squad with Clough were running around Dam Flask at Bradfield this week. All were laughing and joking , and all appeared well in the camp . May see a different attitude Saturday and Tuesday . Me - just trying to be positive and look for any positives . On the other hand ...

I just enjoyed Grecian2000 mentioning Tiffs. First nightclub I ever got into. Plastic palm trees and the lot, in the glorious summer of 1983. More than 30 years ago, and I can still remember they were playing "Just Can't Get Enough" as I lied about my birthday to the bouncers. Happy days.

100% agree. The knee jerk reactions have been no doubt been having a negative affect on the club this year. Not that we should be happy with the current situation but some of the things said in the aftermath of defeats have been ridiculous at times.
