I've just been watching Chris Wilder's reaction to the Burton game and I noticed again that he mentioned Burton had changed their shape to compete with us. I've noticed this has been the case for a long time that teams have been coming to the lane and changing their formation.

I was just wondering if people think this is actually working as a positive for us to be playing teams that arent used to playing the way they seem to have to against us? and if so is this just another positive trait of the wing back system, in that teams have to alter so as not to be over exposed on the flanks?

Has to be a benefit for us, thought maybe not at the beginning of the game if it's to try and neutralise us, just because they're not as rehearsed at it and there's more chance of players being out of position when we're attacking.

Also since they've moved first, gives us the opportunity to change our system and completely throw them off.

I think they are playing into our hands, changing their methods to try and nullify us.
The reason i think this wont work, is that the manager and his team has the ethos of just keeping going, being relentless. And so even if that tactic works against us, and we aren’t as dangerous as usual, we adapt our systems and make positive changes in search of the result.

So that means opponents too need to be equally adaptable and then still able to be productive themselves.

In my opinion, we are a success because we try and win. And I feel of more sides opted to go all out against us they would perhaps be more successful. Most clubs have good players, and so enough quality to cause our players problems.

How dare teams try to scout the opposition and set their lineup in such a way to try to maximise their chances of winning! Ban this sick filth!

I agree, that’s quite enough of this sort of thing..

But but.. the only reason we aren't losing every week is cos teams don't know how we play and once they do we will get found out and relegation will rear it's ugly head.

I know this because it's been said so many times on Pork Talk it's now gospel.

And what a pleasure to have a manager who lets the opposition worry about us.

Roll on Cardiff at the Lane;)

They match our shape, but don't match the tactics. Any bunch of idiots can line up with three at the back or three in the middle, but that alone doesn't automatically nullify the way we play.

Agree, it’s as though every team we play these days change their formation to match ours.

However surely we have the big advantage because our players play the same system every match.
Take Reading for example, for the first 70 minutes they were pitifully poor and played as though some of their players didn’t know their roles. Then if by magic they eventually adjusted and in the last 10 minutes finally looked a good team.

Basically opposition teams are being asked to play an unfamiliar formation so won’t be as comfortable as our players.

This is not possible, teams are surprised by us and the only reason we win is because they haven’t sussed us out yet so how could they possibly be changing shape to combat us?!

Better make it count while we can, or adapt

In the months and years to come when the blades have unstoppabley scythed thier way into the psyche of fans and pundits everywhere,’Wilders way’or ‘tufty ball’or whatever you want to call it will be lauded as revolutionary..........it really is that good.

Oppositon can change shape all they want..
We just shape shift accordingly...
Tufty's Red and White shape shifters...

Wonder if their could be a Star Trek franchise film in this
