A few conundrums for Wilder to wrestle with me thinks.

Assuming Egan is fit he starts, no question. Stears will be solid otherwise. But what about RCB and LCB?

A few weeks back I might have slapped myself in the face for even asking this question, but having seen Cranie and Stevens perform so well in these roles, and I mean really fucking well against 2 genuine promotion contenders, with Johnson in an admirable supporting role, do we start JOC and Bash assuming both are fit? Heart says yes, head isn't entirely sure, but I am pissed so hey ho...

And who would you start in CAM and upfront? I think Dowell might have the shirt for the next few games [even though Duffy is my favourite Wilder era player] but the front two is harder to pick. Sharp starts I reckon, so do we try to unnerve the grunters in the stands with Madine, or go with McG/Hogan....

Decisions, decisions....

Henderson
Basham Egan O'Connell
Baldock Norwood Fleck Stevens
McGoldrick
Sharp Madine

PLEASE let Egan and O'Connell be fit.

If they are, the only question would've been who plays the 10 role.

But now Cranie's staked his claim as well.

They'll be a bit cocky after a convincing win against Swansea, but Swansea are possibly the weirdest side in the division. On their day they can give anyone a game, but they're in the position they're in because they rock up to shitholes like Hillsborough and play like morons.

I'm not looking forward to next week. We play excellent stuff and we should stuff 'em, but I don't ever want to adopt their arrogance and assume we'll wipe the floor with them.

This is the only definitive chapter of their shit season. We need to make sure it's one they don't want to read.

Wilder said earlier that Egan and Cranie should be fine, don't think JOC was mentioned though. Like you, I hope he is fit too. As much as I think Johnson has done well, we might need our experienced left side pairing for this one. That being said, Johnson looked well handy cutting in on his right peg, definitely something he has over Stevens.

Sharp's a definite, it's who partners him. Personally I'd go with Madine if the pigs are going to play anything like last time.

Fleck and Norwood are a given. Hendo, obviously. The rest of the side is a bit of a guess. No one deserves to be dropped after the last two games but with Basham and O'Connell to return it's hard to imagine neither of them get the nod.

JOC and Baldock started back training on Thursday so should be fine for next week.

We all know derbies are unpredictable but this one is gonna be mental. They've fuck all to lose and their players really need to start putting themselves in the shop window cos theres no way pie belly or tuna twat are gonna subsidise their daily greggs visits next season.
We need to see them for the ipswitch they are, relegation fodder, but remain professional or it will bote us in the arse. They're just 3 points this season. We've bigger fish to fry.

I'd have to know the full facts on everyones fitness and niggles but I'll gladly leave it to Wilder to decide.

Can't argue with that. I am just asking on the presumption that everyone is 100% fit and niggle free.

I am fully on board with this. We need to pack the midfield and disrupt Bannan and Reach, who can cause damage with their one foot. McGoldrick’s physically more demanding than Dowell in the space left, and would be more of a match for Hutchinson. Disrupt them and let the Pigs grunt early on again for this one.

Whoever we pick, they’ll need to defend Hendo when defending corners & crosses as I get the feeling they’re gonna try to get around him as much as they can. Hendo’s a great keeper - best we’ve had in a long time - but corners & dangerous crosses are a weak point of his. If they get bodied around him as crosses are coming in, there’s every possibility it could drop to one of their players

JOC and Egan go straight in for me, possibly even Baldock, though Freeman is a favourite of mine. Going to be honest and say Crainie would be my choice for RCB and Stevens can go straight back to wingback, Johnson on the bench. Top two, Sharp and Madine. Midfield sorts it sen.

It’s a genuine conundrum and I’m happy for Wilder to judge who should start as his decision-making, and use of subs, in the game last season was excellent. I wouldn’t have gone with Basham in midfield there last season for example but it worked a treat.

Dowell’s pace on the counter plus better general fitness could be very useful for the high press over McG though

I can see Billy, Duffy and Weshing Madine staring. All have something to prove. Bounces to slay.
Just hope they dont let emotion come I to it though. Just keep thinking "3 points".

Aren’t dilemma’s wonderful to have than praying for the same 11 every week!

I do agree that Dowell would all be effective but I don’t see them pressing the play much in the middle for Dowell to exploit behind preferring pressing the wingers, and I do see Steve “Kick them hard” Bruce with Bullen, grunting to Hutchinson and Bannan to put boots in early of which I think McG would be least effected.

Indeed! Yeah potentially, I can’t see them playing ‘nice’ football however, I haven’t watched them play once apart from at Bramall Lane but I can’t imagine it’s intricate & expansive stuff. We just need to play our game well, keep our heads focussed, not get drawn into daft situations and let our lads to what they do best

Can we play Sharp, Madine and Didsy? This game needs experience to keep our heads. Hence Bash will start to steady the ship

Hendo
Bash, Egan, O'Connell
Baldock, Norwood, Fleck, Stevens
Dowell
Sharp, Madine

Best 11 for the job IMO

Subs
Duffy
Freeman
Stearman
McGoldrick
Cranie
Hogan
Moore

Wish I could find a place for Coutts

I have no idea what the best team is anymore. I'd be happy with any permutation along the back line. Up front I'd prefer Madine and Sharp with Duffy in the 10 role.

If Baldock isn't 100% then I'd have no hesitation to play Freeman, I would prefer Stevens at LWB but he's also excellent at LCB, I just think he's a more solid option that Johnson (who did well last night).

Options for once. I thought that the bench last night was probably the strongest we've seen for a very long time and it's a nice problem to have.

That's also been my Derby side as well.

McGoldrick behind Madine and Sharp is just the Derby surprise which will put added pressure on them.

McGoldrick can have an effect Brooks did just behind and Madine starting alongside would be just the shithouse thing they would hate.

Bit harsh on Dowell. But him Duffy and Hogan is a great bench to turn to.

Is Jack O’Connell v Marvin Johnson, plus playing one of the players of the season in Stevens in his actual position, even a debate?
FWIW I think Johnson’s done fine the last two games and have been defending him, but JOC coming back in (and surely Basham) is the biggest no-brainer there is.

Go with Billy and Didsy. Didsy surely learned his lesson of not being selfish after last two games and he creates more than Madine who's shot chance kind of shows why he doesnt score more.

Wilder is just gonna pick the team out of a hat when he’s had a few, safe in the knowledge that no one will let him down.

Eloquently put, profound.

Take up a career in punditry please.

Me, I'm pissed but if I wasn't I still wouldn't have a clue who to pick out of around 18 players, they can all do a job.

For some reason I think your post is probably the most accurate out of them all!!
