A few on the bench, and a few injured of course, but I would put probably put money on Bash being the last one from that squad to ever play for us, or possibly Fleck if we can keep him.

Yes, but Jack Pickering was at the club for 23 years. From 1925 to 1948. Joe Shaw was from 1945 to 1966.

Joe Shaw played 46% of his games in the top division. Alan Woodward 55% including a club record 5 years on the trot without missing a game. Len Badger recorded 73% of top division games out of his 450 plus league games.

The record though and will always be is that of our greatest ever player and captain Ernest Needham. Apart from 1 league championship, 1 Great Britain Cup and 2 FA Cups to go with his 17 England caps only 20 of his 464 league games were outside the top division. That was in his first season when he got us promoted. For the next 17 consecutive seasons until he left we played in the top flight. That is how you achieve legendary status.

From 1893 to 1934 we played 37 consecutive seasons in the top flight before we were relegated. Little old Sheffield United have a history of being a force in football something to-days pundits give little regard to as in most cases they haven't done the research when commenting on our club.

Terrific servant. The sort of player that needs to be kept around even if he transitions to a squad player over the coming years. Seems a very likable and respected character by Wilder and the rest of the lads. He's the DNA of this side under Wilder.

Basham is the beating heart of our system .
He's the Duracell battery full of energy. How he's adapted to our link up play triangles and how dangerous he's become in the opposition's box is beyond expectation.
His winning goal at Leeds is my favourite Wilder team goal Only matched by the Duffy bounce slaying effort.
That goal epitomized what he gives us.
He would run through a brick wall if CW asked him to. Commitment is his forte.
His skill improving with every game .
You can't buy what he brings to us .

I think he's been great - he's my wife's favourite player as well because of the sheer effort and determination he puts in. He's also very versatile and can do a job just about anywhere on the park.

For all this though I have to say I think he's probably one of the least technically able players in the squad and there are times when he does absolutely brainless things with the ball. I think he is potentially the weakest link in that side, despite making a huge contribution to it over the years, and I think he will be one of the ones who will be phased out/replaced next season with someone of a far higher standard. But hopefully he'll remain at the club and be extremely valuable as back-up.

All his overlapping and underlapping is just based on running. No awareness of space, his team mates or what clever little flick is needed to set up a goal against Spurs.

I've seen Basham do the Cruyff turn, overlap, underlap, tricks and flicks. I've not criticised his awareness of space or his team mates - that's something that you've just brought up, I've no idea why?

It is my opinion that the bloke is one of the least technically gifted footballers in the entire squad. He makes up for that with his sheer effort and determination.

You don't have to agree with that - that's fine. But that's my opinion.

All the players will be replaced eventually - I think we will see the right hand defensive position as being one of the priorities this summer.

Kevin Keegan said he just worked harder than anyone else to achieve what he did. He openly admits his technical short comings. But football is not just about technical ability. Like Keegan did Basham tirelessly works harder to support and offer options where others would be static. I'd rather have a grafting Basham than a player with gifts who sauntered aimlessly.
Basham used to be less technically gifted but not that much now as he's learnt so much. Give me 3 like Basham than 3 like Baxter who waste their talent .

Well my opinion is he’s already reached legend status. I love the bloke. “Technically gifted”? He’s got enough technical ability to do what he does playing the overlapping centre back role. There’s no one else in the PL who does what he does (apart from JOC on the left). Wouldn’t swap him for any other player in the PL.
