Frankly I think the stats are often a load of nonsense. How are they calculated anyway? For example is a shot that hits an opponent and is deflected "on target"? How does the observer work out if it is on target or off target. If the shot is blocked is it still a shot? If not when is it deemed to be blocked as opposed to being deflected away from goal. Often it is difficult to know if a player is shooting or putting a ball across the goal for others to put in. Is a shot that is clearly missing the goal but is deflected in by an opponent (an own goal) a shot "on target"? As above when a team scores and there is a big celebration before tha ball is returned to the centre for kick off which team is in possession? And so it goes on....
