One of the worst misses I have ever seen for us

A few have posted about the goalkeeper- surely its basic football knowledge that if you can't do anything you may as well hit it at him?

It could deflect in, deflect to another player, or rebound back to him.

The decision making and the execution of what he did was desperately poor.

I think it’s key to acknowledge that this was nowhere near the worst miss you’ve ever seen though. As many have said it wasn’t even the worst miss in the game.

Fair enough- you may have missed me correct the record a few posts back where I said I should have used the word 'emphatic' rather than 'worst' 👍

With those comparing it to Hamer- its a false comparison for me as he's not a striker, though I do acknowledge that as a professional footballer it was a bad one as well.

Not even comparing to Hamer’s really. It just wasn’t that bad a miss. The xG stats suggest it was a 1/3 chance, it’s hardly the same as someone who balloons the ball over from a yard or rounds the keeper and puts it wide or over.

Cannon’s been shit so far but this wasn’t a terrible miss by any stretch, it was one where you just utter “ffs” and move on.

As I also said, it wasn't just the fact that he missed it- if he hit the bar or the keeper no-one including myself would complain.

Its the fact that he ballooned it miles over, it was such a poor piece of skill and lack of composure akin to when Brewster nearly hit the corner flag a couple of years back.

We move on- hopefully with him nowhere near the matchday squad.

I think you are confusing it with “hit the target”.

I’ve been playing and watching the game for 35 years and nobody has ever said “hit the keeper”.

At Basham’s testimonial yesterday:

Basham, Freeman, Coutts all took 6 months to a year before they showed anything for us.

Took Billy 3 spells at the club to make a meaningful impact.

Worth remembering before taking delight in ripping this lad to bits. Some players need the right system, team mates or manager before they come good. Sometimes they just need a run of games.

Worked hard on Saturday but nothing came off for him. He’s had a poor start to his career but he’s made a handful of starts and had precious little service.

By all means discuss/debate etc but I’ll never understand the need to give our own players so much grief. Quite sure he doesn’t want to be playing badly.

He definitely shouldn’t be playing in the next few games, Campbell and Moore are the best 2 forwards this season and O’Hare the best AM so it should be a combination of these.

Really puzzled by this and a couple of others who have made this point.

I am not a high-profile figure, if I was Mark Goldbridge making these posts with a huge following I could understand it, but I'm a poster on a forum that he probably doesn't read. I'm not booing him or giving him any abuse at the ground or in person. I'm sure he doesn't want to play badly, but based on his performances I wonder if he is staying behind after training to practice simple shooting drills.

As a side-note you're right how things can change, this is one of my favourite threads:

Give it a rest, mate, 180+ posts is really impressive

One of the worst misses I have see at the lane was a few years ago, this fat lass was sat i front of me, she looked like Lisa Riley crossed with The Boy David. More hair on her face than David Bellamy. Think she was farming moths. Put me off my bag of Squares.
