I'll admit I thought it was time for Wilder to go last Summer - but I never expected us to bring someone as unproven as Selles in as his replacement. In context of the start of this season, Wilder's return can only be seen as a positive move (and I'm impressed that COH swallowed their pride here, that can't have been easy).

So last season was good in terms of points haul, but awful in terms being dull and drab with atmospheres akin to a funeral even when winning. We'd go 1-0 up and park the bus many, many times and whilst it's better than getting hammered every week... it was far from fun. The concern is we go back to picking up points but it still being dire to watch..however there may be a glimmer of hope in this regard.

With Souza, Anel and Choudhury all gone and serious doubt over our ability in defensive midfield and right back (tbf Burrows has been off it too)... I have to wonder if "One Nil Wilder" will have to change his approach as he returns this season? Could a shakier defense mean he's compelled to go for it and play more attacking football? If he knows we absolutely have to score multiple goals most games to compensate for a shakier defense, surely he'll not persist with Cannon? Am I just clutching at straws here or do we have reason to believe we might get a bit of entertainment this time?

Sorry to be a pedant FA, but it’s “defence” not “defense”

Not a prayer he changes he hasn't got the nouse to change.

With the personnel we currently have I reckon there's a good chance CW goes back to a back 3.

That isn't an issue for me at all but what happens in front of them is key.

Would personally go with Peck and Matos in MF with Hamer just behind Ings and Campbell in the Duffy role.

I was very entertained last time so the OP is based on a false premise imo. Hopefully we can play structured controlled football as that's the way to achieve results.

I don't see lots of goals as entertainment. They come as a result of organisational problems that the opposition and/or we suffer from. Multiple goals on both sides is usually a sign both teams are struggling with their balance and organisation. That's incompetence mistaken for entertainment.

You were in a minority. Hence the awful atmosphere at most games.

He'll change alright, I've heard if appointed he's already decided not to pick Robinson
Day after Wlder comes back we see this on social media...'Understand talks ongoing between Sheff Utd and Birningham with a view to a season-long loan for Jack Robinson, with the obligation to buy at the end of the season" 🤣

Whatever formation we play, I think we'll find the players from now on are asked to play roles they have the ability to play.

Sorry, but I’d fookin love a couple of parked bus 1-0’s now.
In the short term I'm with you, I think most blades would snap your hand off for that throughout september and october, anything to get our points tally looking respectable. Beyond that, I really hope we become more of a goal threat than we were last season, I think we'll have to be to get wins over the line.

The atmosphere at BL has been shite for over 20 years. Style of play is irrelevant to that.
Ah, but some of us stand up now.

In all seriousness I think its an attitude problem rather than a fan or ground one. We never seem to be the plucky underdogs any more. Yes in the Prem years we were the smaller club but even then there was either an expectation or a pressure not to lose, and when we inevitably did we'd leave at half time rather than roar them back into gear. We've have a few seasons of pure humiliation and then others of expectation and arrogance, when we've acted like we deserve something or are entitled to win. Being a yoyo club has probably knocked the stuffing out of us, we dont sing when we're expected to beat a team (first through a bit of arrogance then through slight nevers and pressure if we fall behind) then brace for the worst worst, go into our shell (because unlike the other half we are eternal pessimists) when we play the better sides.

Unfortunately I think it will be more of last season. You might as well take a book to read and just look up when the crowd makes a noise. Go for a piss early to beat the HT rush and there is already hundreds outside knocking ale back that's how entertaining Mr 92pts was, fair to say I'm only slightly enthusiastic about CW's return. A quick fix ? Yes. The way forward to be established in the Prem? Not so sure. Too much baggage? For sure.

I am slightly hoping that Wilder has also taken the summer as a bit of a break and comes back reenergised. It was an emotional season last year (GB's passing I think played a part of that) and by the end of it, he just seemed emotionally frayed.

My hope is that he comes back in, puts a bit of fight into the players and we can start getting some points (well, some shots would be a good start...).

He surely has to have realised though, that he needs to move this side on, even with now so many players that aren't his. defensively solid is one thing, having a team that stops attacking just doesn't cut it.

'Established in the Prem' that's LALA Talk. We are bottom of Champ with no points . Right now the return of Chris is just what's needed to stave off relegation. Visions of grandeur maybe for another time right now.

For Saturday lets just pray for a massive bit of BADGE THUMPING- and we are on the board.

Good luck Chris - I wish you all the luck in the world and Oh please for some of them bore feast 1-0 scrappy wins - bring it on.
