I was 7 years old, living down south so didn't go. Spent Boxing Day at my Grandparents. Grandad was a Pig, but a lovely man, God rest his soul. He was very kind when we checked teletext to see the half time score of 1-0 saying plenty of time for United to come back yet but pissed himself laughing when we saw the full time score....I cried buckets, which made him laugh even more and my Dad,(a Blade) furious.

Hatred for the Pigs was sealed from that day, not my Grandad of course but I remember every horrible detail.

My father was an Everton fan. Both my parents were from Liverpool.
So my dad had no allegiance to either United or Wednesday. He took my brother and I to both Bramall Lane and Hillsborough.
On that fateful Boxing Day, I was 15. My brother was 18. He went with his mates in the Wendy end. I went with my United mates in the Leppings Lane end.

After that day, we were permanently split in football terms. I was sealed as a Unitedite. Still am at 60 years old.
Can't abide the blue and white. My brother is Wendy.
Haven't set foot inside Swillborough since.

BTW I once went to a Wendy game against Man U in 1974 which finished 4-4 where the Red Devil fans took over both ends. You can see them celebrating at both ends in this video.
Cant imagine that would have happened at The Lane.

i was in the south stand kop end that day with a wednesday mate only time ive seen a horse go on the terraces a white one at that must have been 15k man utd fans on the kop and 10k on leppings lane with about 200 clustered wednesday fans in the bottom corner only police stopped em from getting battered that day mind must have been at least 10k on the shoreham boxing day 66

That Wendy Man U game I remember all the shops boarded up on the way to Swillborough. Must have been expecting trouble.
As I said, last time I went there. Hate the place. Is it still like that?
