With the news that Illy is going, how much has this fucked up United's season?

He was that glimmer of hope that's now being extinguished
Don't get me wrong, it was always going to be a struggle without him, but he's the one player who could turn a game on his own, take that away and we're just well organised and hard working. That said its pretty sad we were pinning most of our survival hopes on him. Being heavily reliant on one player isn't good because they can even be sold or worse get injured. It will be interesting to see how Palace do without Zaha as well.
If there is one thing the Wilder model proved pre COVID is that we didn't have to rely on one single player to win games for us.

We'll see lots of one or two nil defeats that could have been wins or draws with illy here

Palace already have two quality, young match-winners in Eze and Olise who have taken over from Zaha.
Maybe so but also we do need to see who we actually bring in as well. I was worried last season that we relied too much on certain players especially Illy.
Everyone had their heart in their mouth yesterday when Illy was on the end of a heavy challenge. That's really what we are banking on? a fully fit Ndiaye for the whole season?
If you think we'll bring anything resembling quality in, I admire your optimism
Actually we're selling him because he wants to go,the club have been trying to shut the stable door after the horse has bolted, we should have had the foresight to see his true potential & given him a 5 yr deal, instead we gave him 3k a week, he owes us nothing & has royally entertained us for 2 seasons & helped us back to the Premier League, good luck IlliI think we were already "fucked" before we sold our best asset, but like Dave Bassett told the muppets who sold Deane in 1993 while he was on holiday "you've just cost us relegation"
Back then we "reinvested" by signing donkey Flo, we ultimately drew a whole host of games and went down on the last day Deane would have guaranteed us 8-15 more goals easily.
This time we have had to sell Illy cos the Prince is basically hawked up to the eyeballs in debt so any reinvestment won't even buy a donkey Flo type
Yeah we are fucked
Ah fair enough thenActually we're selling him because he wants to go,the club have been trying to shut the stable door after the horse has bolted, we should have had the foresight to see his true potential & given him a 5 yr deal, instead we gave him 3k a week, he owes us nothing & has royally entertained us for 2 seasons & helped us back to the Premier League, good luck Illi![]()
Even if Ndiaye stayed I can't see us scoring many goals. McBurnie scored 6 in his first Premier League season then only 1 the season after. He only scored 13 league goals least season, which is good but not setting the Championship alight. He wasn't even in the top ten top scorers in the division and now he's our main hope for goals in the Premier League again. What was that phrase Einstein came out with about insanity?I just don't see how we score goals. That's a big problem for a football team.
