I can see.Watkins being a goer as a younger version of McGoldrick but I'm worried his impact will be similar to Robinson. Bowen is out of our price range, Hull reportedly want 25m plus !

I’d offer Hull what he’s worth and see if they have the balls to turn it down. £15m max.

Well watched second half of Brentford game and wasn’t that impressed with Watkins.
Neat and tidy yes, but not particularly powerful, quick or great at holding up play.

ok, he scored. But from what I saw he wasn’t much of any of an upgrade on Robinson in the league below...and definitely less of an impact than McB was last season.
Now I know I’ve not seen every Brentford game, live a couple or three times and highlights for another 6/7....but in that other players have stood out more....Benrhama being one (Though end product a bit wayward for the top maybe)

I wouldn't mind either of Watkins or Bowen but would prefer the latter by some way .

Everything about his style of play points to the fact that he would be a better fit to our system and I would Kevin Keegan style 'love it' if we were to sign him .

Come to think of it , he might just be the new Kevin Keegan . :)

Bowen is the lad we should be in for. He is the one who I think could really grow with us and be a real fans favourite. He works hard for the team, isn't a premadonna, and is still a young lad with an excellent attitude. Chuck in the fact that he technically very good and is TWO footed, means he is a very dangerous player. He would fit in no problem with us and our 'style' and be a real player for us for a good few years. He's the one for us, imo. Problem is he is probably gunna only be a potential signing for us if/when we stay up and in the summer as he isn't going to come cheap. Still Rome wasn't built in a day and he is exactly the type of player we should be all over like a rash.

Watkins would be a good signing if the moons align and the price and availability is right in the future, but he wouldn't be my first pick.

I think Watkins is a safer and probably cheaper bet than Bowen.

If we're spending big money I'd rather it be on someone who can play any of the required positions. Bowen could never be the main CF.

I think we'll already be planning to move Robinson on in the summer. Either of these would be a direct replacement and we're obviously in for at least one.

I'd prefer Bowen but I'm unsure he fits into our current system. He's an attacking midfielder or out wide and we play with neither. A bit of a David Brooks really... Saying all that, he's banged goals in from midfield in a very poor Hull side now for 1.5 seasons. If he's available we need to get him. He'll end up in the PL in January. Is he any less adaptive than Robinson ?

In which position would you expect him to play Weasel? Personally, as with Robinson, I feel it may be another case of square peg, round hole unless he is able to play the DMcG role i.e. second striker who is able to drop deeper to link play.

If we were to sign bowen and/or Watkins. Cw might be looking to change the shape slightly next season? More of a 343/523/541 however you look at it. It would suit Robinson as well this shape, we would lose 1 of the centre mids and we would probably not send the wide cbs as forward as often.

I agree to lightweight we need a bit more physical presence.

What everybody seems to be disregarding when suggesting Bowen could play the McGoldrick role - the only role available to him in our team - is the physical aspect involved.

McGoldrick's not just a silky link up player, he's a physical presence too.

Bowen isn't, and neither he or Watkins have the link up ability to make up for it.

Would we really want a strike pair where Mousset is the only physical presence? He struggles with the workload enough as it is.

I understand this desire to have another forward with a physical presence.....but, and it's just a suggestion.....over the years I've seen many players, of whom there have been many without the type of physique you'd associate with the type of player we seem keen on adding to our squad. I've watched players with superb physical attributes who are incapable of asserting themselves, which brings me to the thought that what matters is whether a player has the mental qualities to impose himself on an opposing defender. Being possessed of the mindset that let's a defender know you'll give as good as you get, that you can compete with the opposition's toughest and roughest.....sometimes it's these things that make the difference, not whether someone is carrying an extra few pounds.

By all means let's have a player who looks fearsome, who opposing player's bounce off, but let's not get ourselves fixated on one type of player, especially when there might be a player, possessed of excellent skill, who doesn't fit the photo-fit stereotype.......all I want is someone who can make a substantial difference, be they small or large.

Agreed. Look what Vardy does to defenders.

What Vardy does to defenders is scare them sh1tless with his pace...admittedly hes a tough lad too....combine both with finishing ability and you have the perfect centre forward

The second striker role / floating midfielder would be exactly where I would expect to see him if he signed for us.

The lads got pace, is a strong lad, and floats past people for fun. A bit like Brooks but with more physique imo. Whilst Goldie has been great for us, who do we genuinely have as a replacement for him in either the short term or the long term. We cannot expect Goldie to stay constantly fit, not when he came to us as a player who picked up plenty of niggles. We have been fortunate that he has played as many as he has for us, but that insurance in the form of a very very good young player is where we should be investing.

Good players don't just play in one position. Instead they are technically good enough to adapt anyway and play where necessary. Bowen would be the long term replacement for Goldie, for me, and he is settled in Yorkshire so it's not like he thinks he's a superstar coming up north for a stint.

When a big Premiership club comes calling...

I assume that means they want £20m then.

Let somebody more desperate than us pay that for him if they must.

Nothing will convince me he's worth that money.

Who is he keeping out of their team?
That would be the guy to buy and is our business model if a team has really good players in any position we buy from their next level.

$20 million wtf, thanks but no thanks... on to the next target

No expert, but in my humble opinion he ain’t worth that

Sooner go for Bowen. He looks more dynamic with a hint of aggression in his play and I think that would suit the PL

He'll be worth even more

Steer well clear at £25m......might as well take a punt in a young striker from the French second division for a fraction of the price.....after all, Watkins would be exactly that....a punt!
