Starts for us tonight at Morton, currently on trial.

Be a decent left back if we take him still rated by newcastle fans.

he was a newcastle regular a few seasons back wasn't he?

olvier bernard

Not played for nearly a year though.

Would be a good signing for back up, or maybe as a contender for a first place.

I asked my Newcastle supporting mate what his opinions of Bernard were and he replied thus;

i think he's f@cking awesome. if he doesn't want too much money, he's the right player. you can play him on the wing or as a full back, he can hit it with both feet, he's quick, well balanced and totally fearless. he used to get the shit kicked out of him every single game for us, but he's the type to just dust himself down and get on with it. rarely ever injured, a model professional who regularly won man of the match awards and seemed popular with most at SJP. it's the consencus of opinion between me and all my mates (and it has been for a long time) that bernard is a much better player than baba.

also, he always scores against chelsea.

the only thing i'd say about him, and i developed this opinion over 3 seasons, is that he always starts the season slowly, and can look a bit out of place defensively until about september. this is a personal observation, and may seem a bit bizarre/unfair. he seems to thrive on playing 2 or 3 times a week.

there must be more to it than meets the eye though, as he's struggled to get contracts from premiership clubs since leaving us. he had a few trials before rangers took him on. but i'd be delighted if we took him back at SJP, and bobby robson used to rate him, so i hope that answers your question.

Seems to be a bit of an endorsement then, and this guy has seen him play on many occasions.

get him signed up according to your mate he sounds as if its just whatwe need to improve our defence nd finish up our signing (would like koumas or mcsheffery ut cant see it if barbard signs)

Sounds like he would be a great buy then!

Get him and Koumas in:)

He's reported to be on his way out of Newcastle because he can't get to the fitness level required.

Is this new news, i thought he had a trial in the summer but signed for Newcastle instead?

He had a trial with us against Morton.#
Didn't look up to it IMO.
We never followed up the interest and he signed for Newcastle which I think is a bonus for us cos I don't think he would ahve got into the starting lineup or even on the bench.

A fully fit Bernard would be an excellent signing. Great player

I think that is what Newcastle were hoping for but obviously he can't get that fitness back, his best days seem to be behind him and we can't live on the hope that someone will become fit sometime.
I think Stretch, Geary, Kozzy & Bromby have the fullback positions covered for now and if we need extra backup Starosta and Roma both look good at the moment.
