He’s just not very good at football. Unbelievable athlete though
I had an argument with my son about Burke last night. To me, I agree, he needs coaching, there's something there. My son pointed out that WBA, Leipzig and Celtic all tried and failed, why will we be different?
He's probably worth a crack in the championship but he needs to engage his brain, too much Duracell bunny, not enough thinking in his play.
For me, the reason I liked Wilder's comments, was that for the first time in months, he reminded me of the old Wilder from last season, who would call issues out and be straight talking not Mr Cliche. On reflection, perhaps he should have been more diplomatic but just good to hear him talk like he used to.
Wish my wife would tell me to eat as many of the best steaks I could...![]()

Interesting read that ^^

Seriously, thanks for that, forgot about Forest tbh, I wonder if Sharp has spent much time with him? I don't know what Sharp's role could be but as others have said, surely we should tap into his footballing/striking brain? He'll have forgotten more than Burke and Brewster know and I'm not having a dig at them. In sport a mentor can be so important, are we really utilising the likes of Jags and Billy fully I wonder.
I recently read Ancelotti's book 'Quiet Leadership' and one of the most striking elements was his passionate approach to include others in his coaching team. This was before his Everton days, and originally I presumed that DF wouldn't be one of his backroom staff but having read his words I know how wrong I was. In addition to helping DCL and others, DF is Everton in his blood and Ancelotti is big on club culture too, especially in a foreign country. Delegation isn't a dirt word.Interestingly had this discussion before here:

'DCL has attributed his development this season to the influence of Duncan Ferguson. We don't seem to have anyone like that at our club. In the past we had Chris Morgan as a coach who spent a fair bit of time mentoring Harry Maguire.
(Yes we have Sharp and Jagielka who I imagine could try to take on coaching responsibilities in the future though we need people now)
Wilder says that he cannot play the game for them and he is correct. However imagine if Burke asked him how to become a better striker what would he say and what could we offer?
I bet Duncan Ferguson would work wonders with Burke.'

Looking at his energy output last night he would be wingback for no more than 5 minutes .thing with burke is that hes not a striker hes a winger/rwb and its starting to show unless we play 442 or 3 up top he doesnt look comfortable in our set up
I read the article and now I'm hungry. The power of suggestion.![]()

His shooting is so bad, but I’m intrigued to know what his crossing was like as a winger![]()
I like Burke but no one can consistently mis time jumps like that,it’s become comical.....I’m now of the opinion that his jumping is a merely a deception to give the impression he’s trying to make contact but actually he has no real intention of heading the ball because it either hurts his puppy head or he’s worried about brain damage and suffering the consequence in old age.Burke is an odd player. His build suggests he should be slow when in actual fact he's one of the fastest players I've seen. His size says he should be decent in the air but he jumps so early, and has often risen and landed before the ball gets to him!
Alternative positions:
Linesman.
Fetching the ball when it gets booted out of the ground.
Bloke that gets the backie butties in when the van arrives.
Checkout worker in Lidl.
Am I remembering correctly that Raheem Sterling another speedster had a similar issues with his final pass/touch/shot and always seemed to fluff his lines at the last minute particularly for England?Whenever we have a pacey forward there's going to be weaker parts of his game. If not he'll be gone after one season.
There are very few footballers in the world who can run really really fast and maintain good close technique. I think it's partly the way they've learned to play, i.e. relying on their pace being enough to take them past opponents. So the skill level may not be fabulous. The other part is that it is simply difficult to keep a good touch when the speed is so high.
Burke had a poor game last night, he'll be disappointed with himself. I think his first couple of touches were poor, the attempted return back to Baldock after the throw was one, and it may have affected his confidence. He's done better in other games, technically and made better use of his main attribute.
We don't have to make the decision that he is a poor player now though. Kean Bryan is the latest example of a player holding his own at the top level after being ridiculed by his own fans. It is fine to say that Burke had a poor game last night, that he's not showing as much as we'd hoped. Maybe it won't work out, but how about delaying the verdict for a while longer?
Maybe we'll say after three years here that he was up and down in his first season, played a part in the promotion the following year and surprised a few with some decent games in our Premier League return. Maybe he'll be off to Millwall in the summer, we'll have to see.
