I hope we’re not signing him as a striker option would really be worried about who were signing up front as thats the most important place we need to add too

If he’s coming in as a RB then decent competition with a massive upside as a signing

If he’s a swap with Robinson as a striker just keep Robinson and give him another run

Especially selling to a direct rival

No end product, runs up blind alleys, runs it out of play and can't shoot for toffee, unless he has improved he will need lots of work from Knill and Co. looks more like a £2m player to me.

Agreed - but we all know CW likes a player like this - Warnock was the same.

If we pull it off and "find" a footballer then it's good management again - if not, we move him on in a couple of years.

Worth the gamble at the RIGHT money.

He has absolutely blasted it at him to be fair!

But if the striker (Joselu I think?) wasn’t flat-footed for the cross then it wouldn’t have ended up over by the corner flag.
TBH, the striker should have left it for his teammate on the edge of the box who was in a much better position. 🤦🏻

I'm hoping that the inclusion of CR in the friendly means that this rumour is a joke.... A very bad joke.

We don't know where Wilder would use him though do we? I'd guess that at the price Burke is available at he could well be a squad player and/or as a plan B, maybe to go to a straight back 4 and then to play Burke on the wing or as an attacking mid in the number 10 role where he could drift out wide also of course, like Duffy did and McGoldrick also does at times.

I don't think its necessarily about comparing Robinson to Burke to be honest Arcott. Robinson was wanted by WBA and reportedly others as well and may well be going regardless. Wilder let him go last season so can't have thought too much to how was playing since he only just signed him last summer.

Also, on your point on selling to a rival, WBA will be fighting relegation I'm fairly sure we can agree here, I think we'll be ok in that respect, and even if we're not I don't see Robinson as a game changer at this level. Do I see Burke as one? Yes I do with his attributes, even if just off the bench.
I agree we wouldn't know where Wilder would play him but I could only see him being an option if as you say we dropped in to a flat back 4. If he was able to reach his earlier potential, I agree he could make an impact from the bench but only if we can get him to kick on. At this time is that where we should be looking to invest? Personally, not for me. I do think we should look closer at Nyambe and Spence as cover with potential to improve.

Looking on twitter it seems Scotland fans don't like Oliver Burke even more so than their dislike of McBurnie! Presumably they'd rather they stick with the likes of Steven Naismith, 33 years young.

I don't think many WBA, or Celtic fans have great words to say about him either.

True Captain, if we do sign him and he achieves his best he'll be a great player. I know that echoes what we said about Ravel, but he's younger and has come off the back of a reasonable season, according to reports, for Alaves.

I haven't traced back through this thread, but I'm confused by this one.

We're going to do a straight swap deal, swapping their out of form winger for our out of form winger, despite us valuing our winger higher and not playing wingers?!

I would be a little concerned with this signing as well, if we were coming up into the champ then he might be a decent signing but still a gamble. hes way off in terms of prem quality and would much rather keep robbo.

As others have said if we stand still we will struggle this year - our post lockdown form which was abysmal proves we need real quality to improve and push the 11. Squad players are pointless if we are aiming for better.

Abysmal??
We had some below par performances sure. But we also played well in others.
Blades 3 Chelsea 0, Blades 3 Spurs 1, Blades 1 Wolves 0 ... hardly what I’d call abysmal!

Wouldn’t mind a 4m punt but definitely wouldn’t swap for Robbo

Our post lockdown form was far from abysmal. We were 13th in the post lockdown. If we replicate our post lockdown form all next season and finish 13th I'll personally be delighted

I agree with that 45k for back up players for a team like ours would be pushing it.

I am talking about first team players though and it is so frustrating when you see so many saying we cant afford this cant afford that.

They talk as is we are a championship club still.
Low payers in the EPL tend to have wage bills I the £70m-£80m range.

Based on 30 players that's an average of £45k to £51k per week. I'm sure that is where our wage bill will travel to over the next 2 or 3 seasons if we stay up.

All those contracts will be performance loaded and have significant relegation clauses in.

We will still make a profit on that basis.

I agree that all this, can't afford it rubbish on here gets a bit irritating

I'm guessing here but I reckon it would be Oli Burke plus money for Robinson. Suspect WBA told us how much they'd be willing to pay for Robinson - which is supposedly £4m - and we baulked at that and suggested including a player as well. Burke was probably one that tempted Wilder given his profile. I'd be very, very surprised if it was a straight swap.

Latest from Nathan Hemmingham of the Yorkshire Post. Confirms talks ongoing between United and WBA.

I know Chris is a big fan of Oli (referring to Burke here) and sees his pace as crucial to United's forward line right now, especially away from home, not sure about the exact details of the deal but with West Brom interested in Callum and United interested in Oli there's obviously scope for a deal to be done there and I believe the two clubs are trying to reach an agreement on this

Sounds promising for those that want Burke - like me!

Also of Twtter, but probably only taken from the Yorkshire Post comment above

WEST BROM FAN TV@ALBIONFANTV

Negotiations with Sheffield United continue over a swap deal for Robinson that would see Oliver Burke move in the opposite direction.

Only other stuff is random Turkish tweets from Trabzonspor fans who seem very excited at the rumours linking them with Oli Burke! Fairly sure we'd be preferred over a move to Turkey, but at least someone else's fans seem excited about Oli Burke!

As a wide player big yes from me, as a centre forward definitely no from me.

there was a handful of good results, i personally thought it was worse than 13th but it certainly was worse than pre-lockdown. I think 13th or lower is probably where we are more likely to finish unless we invest. If i was a betting man i’d have us down for a 13/14th place finish with the current squad. With 2/3 new faces in the 11 then i recon we can equal or better last seasons.

As we don't play with wide players I can't see anywhere else for him other than up top S40! Unless he does come as a RWB option but doesn't seem defensive minded at all! He could provide us with a plan B up top, we all know we're crying out for pace up the top of the pitch.

But we do. RWB and LWB.

Hemmingham seems to have spoken with Wilder on this – Burke viewed as a pacy forward option, not as a RWB, so that can be ruled out.

Despite my otherwise zen-like appearance on here, this makes me twitchy. I'm unsure of the benefits of getting rid of one winger (who struggled in our formation) and replacing him with another. I suppose it may mean 'forward' in the looser sense, rather than centre forward.

Just in case i havent made my stance clear, hes a shit championship player.

Just seen a few compilation videos of his best bits and jesus christ his dribbling, finishing and decision making is poor for the championship let alone the prem. I feel a good move for him would be League 1 to find some form and practice his technique. He couldn't be further from prem quality.

Robinson is a far superior player. I really dont understand what this signing will add? He doesnt look any quicker than robbo and we have moose for pace!

Equally, just because it didn’t work out for one wide player in Callum Robinson, doesn’t mean that no wide players can adapt to the role.
