Nah, probably unlikely.
But would get games, something he’s not getting at Liverpool. And if we were to Chuck £5m at a loan signing would rather a player like Shaquiri than Hendo.

Why would we pay a backup as much as Fulham have foolishly, for a guy whos unproven. We mght look back in 5 years and go yep that was one that go away or we might this time be chuckling like we were with Villa when they Spunked 15 million on Matt Targatt who looked league 1 at best last year.

Why would we pay 15 million for Cash, hes not worth that. Just because Bettis has a semblance of sease and doesnt want to go wasting money doesnt mean Chris will be unhappy about the situation. We dont have money to waste, Chris knows that he also knows they board will back him when the right deal is there to be made like they did with Berge.

People need to take a deep breath here, yes we are all scarred by years of disappointment and hurt but the board or Chris have given none of us a reason to doubt they have a plan that they believe they can pull off in terms of the squad

Unless a player is entering the last year of his contract or getting on a bit, then £15m is the going rate for a top performing Championship player.

It's funny how when one of our players is linked with a move away, we start talking about £50m (e.g. Egan), but as soon as we are linked with buying other club’s best players, we all of a sudden expect their club to give them away McCabe style.

Difference now is that Egan, JOC, Baldock and Stevens have proven they are top premier league players.
We couldn’t have got anything like £15m for Egan in the season we went up.

Now though, his stats back up his performances, he as well as others are on healthy contracts so yes, £25m should be the absolute minimum we’d be asking for. And £50m wouldn’t be unheard of for JOc considering he’s left sided as well as English.

We sold Brooks for about £12m with no Premier League experience, so why wouldn’t we expect Forest to want similar money for one of their best players with three years on his contract? £15m is probably a bit high, but we’re dreaming if we expect to get him for much less.

There are no cheap buys in the Championship, we've gotta look abroad if we want better value for money.

Brooks is a different kind of player. And had hardly played a game. To be honest I felt we got a good price for him co side ring his number of games played.

In fact...how about Shaquiri from Liverpool?

I'd imagine the chances of getting someone of that calibre and reputation are slim. Even if it were possible, I'm not sure it's a very Wilder move. I'd imagine Shaqiri is earning 4x/5x more than our highest earner.

When you have a star player like that, it poses other problems too - you can end up relying on the player too much. Grealish at Villa is an obvious example. Not a good plan if they're a loanee, leaving at the end of the season or subject to transfer interest.

I say all that with a heavy heart too - I'd love Shaqiri, or someone equally exciting at the Lane as much as you.

I agree. At the time the money we got for Brooks, for 1 nutmeg and a goal against Leeds was brilliant.

Superb article. Although I read it and have no idea where we’d play him. RWB, RCM or up front. The way he’s talked about, it’ll need to be one position and one position only if he’s to understand our system. I’m sure CWAK will have an idea.

Interesting to learn he's been playing right wing back in Spain. He may be competition/backup for Baldock at first, and with his physique, pace and dribbling - could he end up being Basham's eventual replacement? :D

I suggest we just tell West Brom to do one.

Offering 4m for a player they supposedly want is no way to go about it.

We probably paid something between 6-8m and this would have been influenced by his contract running down.

He's well in contract with us and he's not so bad that we can't wait to shove him out the door.

Asking price is 8m. If you can't afford it then don't ask. I fail to see why taking away someone who they can't wait to offload is some sort of recompense.

If you can't afford to shop at Waitrose, you go to Tesco or Safeway.

In summary, it's 8m or jog on.

I like your principles but,It’s all part of the game of negotiation.

Having looked into this chap, Oliver Burke, a bit more, I think he’d be an interesting signing. He has pace and height and strength. We don’t have those three things in any one player currently.

I’d seriously consider a swop deal plus cash for Robinson for wing nut.

Stick a jolly smile and straighten the hair and isn’t that a young JOC?? 😀

Good player, hope he signs in spite of that awful excuse of a beard!

I know CW likes a reclamation project but he does pride himself in having good characters in the dressing room. Ever since the lad's eye watering deal to RBL he has been dogged with off the field issues. OB's skills set is as attacking player on right flank. But we don't play wingers... No way is the boy a defender.

I know Callum has his critics as perhaps not being tough enough but he is surely worth much more than OB.

Don't be a Burke...

No end product, runs up blind alleys, runs it out of play and can't shoot for toffee, unless he has improved he will need lots of work from Knill and Co. looks more like a £2m player to me.
Well we’ve had bad players look good on Scouting Vids, so.......

This is an interesting one, CR would not appear so far to have the pace nor physical attributes to be a regular PL player. OB appears to have both, but may not have the football intelligence to be a PL player.

All down to coaching, and we have in CW and AK, two extremely good coaches, which can provide a player with the technical knowhow to perform at this level, but can OB take that on board?

Just don't see the rationale behind this. Doesn't look an upgrade on Robinson at all, if I was bring generous I'd say they were on a par. If we are looking for a rwb get one, stop all this 'he players on the right and looks quick he can play wing back'. If he's been looked at as a striker absolutely not. If we want to get rid of Robinson (I don't as he could develop in to Mcgoldrick's role - let him roam and pick up play) use him as part of a deal to get Cash at least they're not in our league. Don't ever sell (swap) to a rival where he could be a difference to WBA staying up and us down. If we want Burke buy him as he's clearly not wanted and should be relatively cheap, CWAK then work their magic. Could Carl Jenkinson do a job as backup he at least is a rwb and doesn't often play for florest , wages? Tommy Smith at Stoke, Ryan Nyambe (the Namibian Cafu) at Blackburn, Djed Spence Middlesborough? All look decent and shouldn't break the bank, backup with potential.

We don't know where Wilder would use him though do we? I'd guess that at the price Burke is available at he could well be a squad player and/or as a plan B, maybe to go to a straight back 4 and then to play Burke on the wing or as an attacking mid in the number 10 role where he could drift out wide also of course, like Duffy did and McGoldrick also does at times.

I don't think its necessarily about comparing Robinson to Burke to be honest Arcott. Robinson was wanted by WBA and reportedly others as well and may well be going regardless. Wilder let him go last season so can't have thought too much to how was playing since he only just signed him last summer.

Also, on your point on selling to a rival, WBA will be fighting relegation I'm fairly sure we can agree here, I think we'll be ok in that respect, and even if we're not I don't see Robinson as a game changer at this level. Do I see Burke as one? Yes I do with his attributes, even if just off the bench.

Is there a possibility that we might have watched him play RWB in La Liga last season?

Is it just me or is anyone else really warming to the idea of getting him in?
Looks strong and aggressive going forward. Just needs a bit of fine tuning from CWAK 👍

comes across ok to be fair
He might be a diamond in the rough
Our Chris seems adept at finding these players who go on to confound all the critics
I do see a player in Callum too though
Chelsea away was a highlight for sure Freeman got some gametime too that day
You know I am not sure we should be letting either of them go but accept we may have to in order to balance the books

Nothing and I mean absolutely nothing I have seen from Burke has impressed me......speed and and passing ability of Marvin Johnson and the first touch and finishing skills of Connor Sammon........and I'm deadly serious!
