PL teams will think they know how to deal with us this coming season.
Stop the build-up down the wings , stop the wing-backs & those overlapping CBs and dem Blades are fucked.
Well , CW has a surprise in store for them - suddenly there's this big fucker charging straight into their box with the ball and their gameplan's fucked.

Yes, thought the same. Teams that did well against us defended well up the pitch and pushed us back, breaking up our style.
With pace up top and Oli Norwood pinging the ball in behind, it may swing a few games in our favour.

No probably not but there aren’t too many clubs that have been out of the top flight for as long as us getting promoted to the PL. Then you get us last year and Leeds this year.
In context, I believe those two were bought with one eye on the possibility that we might get relegated in our first season.
That we overachieved on those possibilities and neither enjoyed a long run in the starting 11, tells its own story.
Robinson was given chances, and apart from the Chelsea away game, was found wanting?
Wilder enjoyed the luxury of few injuries and suspensions last season, so they both lucked out on that score.
I would like to have seen more of Luke Freeman, but it wasn’t to be.
We were brilliant last season, mostly, and we are now looking stronger this time around.
We did not get relegated last season, so those lads can now move on. GLTTLs

This is a good attitude to have.

Seen a lot of posts along the lines of 'gutted' and 'sad to see him go' and that, but he started our first 9 games or something, and didn't do much. I had a think and for me his two best games for us were Chelsea away and Arsenal away, but that's not enough.

I think Burke will be faster (Robinson was fast at some point but not for us) and if he doesn't nesh out of 50/50s constantly we've got a great deal in my opinion.

Callum was a nice lad but we've not traded Messi for Burke by any means.

He might do well as a winger for West Brom, and I'm sure our fans will be whinging if he does but we don't play wingers so it's irrelevant.

Few thoughts on Burke. Welcome of course, not that I expect he's reading this! Really like the potential in this signing. For those that are disappointed or think we could have done better. Well, I can see your logic because he's not scored many goals and we want to play him as a striker. Also he's not fulfilled his potential from his Forest days. However, he's by in large played as a winger, not a centre forward, so his scoring isn't as bad for a winger. You might then say well we don't play with wingers, and he's not played as a forward enough, but he may be suited to playing in a front two, especially if he can drift out wide and run at people. We don't know what's been said on the tactical side obviously. He may not get more than 5 goals next season, some may think he's more likely to get 2/3, but its not just about the goals as Didzy proved last season.

Where we're at as a club, in our second season in the Prem, we have to make signings like this at times; i.e. for players under the radar or less high profile, We've tried with the Matty Cash's and Ollie Watkins (probably) but we're not yet at the level to compete for the cream of the Championship, let alone players that have excelled for another PL club. We've signed McBurnie and Berge for big money and Ramsdale, but we can't do this for every signing - its just not feasible. So, in this instance, crying out for pace and creativity, we look at players that have good attributes, but for whatever reason don't command that type of huge fee that Watkins has just gone for. For £5m or so, its peanuts by PL standards and we've spent more on many others. It's worth the gamble because you could unearth a gem. When they don't come off or play as much as we'd like, like Robinson and Freeman, I think its worth pointing out that, in my view, at the prices we pay for them at £3 - £7m its inevitable that they may not make the step-up to the PL. Often they haven't played there before but what choice does Wilder have?! That's our budget, we can't afford £20m as I said, and we need to improve the team and/or provide more competition. I think, quality wise, Burke has more attributes to succeed than Robinson for starters.

All the best Oli!

All the best Oli!

I've been watching a few highlights videos of Burke at Forest, quite a few clips where he was almost like a fast, powerful McGoldrick, picking up the ball around the centre circle and running with the ball, either laying it off or taking defenders on.

His shooting isn't Billy level deadly, but looks like he connects better than McG, but his aim can be squiffy.

If he can get back to that style, and be a sort of McGoldrick on steroids he'll do very well here.

As I've said previously, it was clear Robinson wasn't working so we can't really lose unless he's got a Carter Vickers esque penchant for hobbling his teammates.

Just watched the BTS video of Burke's signing. Comes across as a decent chap. Has a laugh with the media team (natural, not forced) contrary to WBA fans views of him being toxic and arrogant. Let's hope he kicks on with a fresh start.

I love how he seems in awe of the stadium like he's looking at Niagara Falls and amazed at the outstanding beauty! I think we take it for granted because we're used to it, but the Lane really is a proper stadium.

That's exactly how I felt on my first visit to Bramall Lane.
Father LYDON got us tickets for the seats he sat in as a young teenager in the Bramall Lane Upper Tier.
Brothers, when I got to the top of the stairs, first saw the pitch, the stands filling up, the lights. A moment I will never ever forget.
It made him really happy, to show me what he first saw back in the 70's albeit with a few differences.
To me, that first ever Bramall Lane experience is up there with European match nights at Parkhead.

Wait until he experiences a full house at Bramall Lane, he's going to (like I did) be overwhelmed.

Last word, never ever take what you have there for granted, it is so beautiful.

If he bagged 5 I'd genuinely be quite happy with that return, considering the way we play means we don't have to be wholly reliant on one player scoring 15-20 as shown by last season

Expectations are tempered but I'm expecting this to turn out to be the shrewdest of deals

West Brom might think they've had our pants down, we'll see

I expect him to be used as an impact sub or outlet when we're searching for a goal/seeing out a game.
Very low risk for us - only a loan, made a bit of cash from Robinson etc.
Can step in when the Moose is unavailable (I think we might have to accept that Mousset is never going to be a regular starter and will come in/out of the team, so another impact/pacy option is essential)
Still expect us to bring in another "starting" striker and believe this signing is just Wilder rolling the dice.
Big chance for this kid to prove himself, hope he takes it.

Only issue is how similar he looks to JOC - gonna be confusing when Jack marauds forwards:

Pace, power, direct and close ball control...... if nothing else he can come on and take pressure off our defenders when struggling to hang onto a 1-0 lead. Let's face it, if Warnock had someone like him to get us out of our own half in all those away games he tossed away we might have avoided the drop.
I'm an optimist though and think (hope) CW might just have pulled an Ace from the bottom of the pack.

Having viewed a few highlight reels he can clearly offer the same sort of outlet that Mousset provided at times last year. Quick and physical especially in the Championship and SPL. Given his career history there must be another side to his game but if these two can share the minutes between them that Mousset got last year then that is the point of a squad system. The big question is who else is coming in who might make it harder for these two to get game time

Could it be a tactical withdrawal?

I know that CW said he was looking forward to working with BrewDog during the international break. Maybe we want Oli and Brewster to work together?

I like Burke, but I think he should be best used from the bench. I just think it sends the wrong message to the other players to go long ball and try to find him over the top, and makes us sit back to try and play counter attacking football. I think we’re much more effective when on the front foot.

I like the idea of him coming on when we actually have a lead to protect and he can just stand on the half way line and we can strike on the break. I don’t think that should be our Plan A though.

Can't wait to see if CW puts brewster, mousset and this guy on the pitch as a front 3

Another Englisman pulling out of a Scotland squad, imagine my shock.
He's not injured

It does’nt have to be a long ball over the top though,it could be a short pass through the middle or a deft pass into the channels or a swift counter attack. We need more vision in midfield to utilise Burke to his fullest potential.

Why has he got a front door knocker on this chest? Weird.

The best tattoo I saw was this fella who had a chess board with pieces, sort of twisted around his arm (a full sleeve), with a score sheet showing the moves of a very famous chess game between Bobby Fischer and Donald Byrne (US Chess championships, New York 1956).

That was kind of weird as well, but looked super cool and very artsy.

HH

Perhaps one of the other Oliver's, Norwood could be the key here. His passing with Burke on the left and Brewster down the middle has got to be one hell of a threat........ 👍

He’s about as injured as sterling is, and Brewster, it’s completely tactical and they will all make a miraculous recovery in about 8/9 days time
