Was just about to say the same.getting Flecky's number 4 shirt
A kid I know said he's been told he'll be given number 4.
For him to get that, it must mean he wasn't given* an official squad number in August / *registered

I certainly hope that is true.Someone here said he will be signing the new contract and getting Flecky's number 4 shirt

Surely getting one will lead to the other.I think he’d prefer a million pound contract to a shirt number.![]()
No young player can resist the temptation of an offer from their boyhood club, unless their boyhood club is us then we’ll get fed another excuse when he leaves for £500k and a pre season friendly so we could balance the books! The contract is dragging, any closer?
Any examples of this?No young player can resist the temptation of an offer from their boyhood club, unless their boyhood club is us then we’ll get fed another excuse when he leaves for £500k and a pre season friendly so we could balance the books!
Players leaving to go their ‘boyhood clubs’?Any examples of this?
Your implication was that United will fail to tie down Arblaster to a contract. You also implied that this only happens to United. All this United bashing and sneering is so tiresome, boring and often inaccurate.Players leaving to go their ‘boyhood clubs’?
I can think of a notable one recently.
Whilst the £500k and pre season friendly was tongue in cheek, we achieved a lot less than the player was worth both to us and in the market at that time.
The player is only worth what someone will pay for him. His worth to us would have been zero at the end of his contract.Players leaving to go their ‘boyhood clubs’?

I prefer gallows humour to relentless clapping when it comes to how our club is run.The player is only worth what someone will pay for him. His worth to us would have been zero at the end of his contract.
We do, actually. However we don’t have a great record at this new contract lark so I’m prepared for the worst.
We probably have a fantastic record at the new contract lark. However, it suits your narrative to just pick out the one's that go against us. No club can make people sign contracts. Offer more money you cry. Dangerous path if they aren't good enough. Surely, this season is proving that.I prefer gallows humour to relentless clapping when it comes to how our club is run.
You do you though.
Just to clarify I don’t actually think we’ll get £500k for him and I’m hopeful he’ll sign a contract. However we don’t have a great record at this new contract lark so I’m prepared for the worst.
It’s not just about making sure contracts are signed, it’s about making sure the correct contracts are offered and signed. We do, actually.
We lost Lundstram at the end of his contract. A few years ago now. I wasn’t too bothered about that.
Then we have Berge & Ndiaye. Berge made it clear he wouldn’t sign a new contract. Ndiaye had actually agreed a new contract until emotions played a part.
Who else have we ever lost under similar circumstances?
If we have a great record then we have nothing to worry about, not tying our better players down earlier has cost us this season without doubt. We probably have a fantastic record at the new contract lark. Which high performing players have we, in your opinion, allowed to leave on the cheap in recent years? In recent years we’ve allowed some high performing players to leave on the cheap (my opinion and yours may differ, that’s fair enough)
Your first sentence is the real point though. You can't "make sure contracts are signed." How? Club can make an offer it deems right for the club. That's all it can do. I agree about certain players they've offered them to but that's just opinion. I think United will be far more competent than you give them credit for. As for the out of contract boys, theyd do well to sign up. I doubt any of them are going to a better club than us.It’s not just about making sure contracts are signed, it’s about making sure the correct contracts are offered and signed.
In recent years we’ve allowed some high performing players to leave on the cheap (my opinion and yours may differ, that’s fair enough) yet offered new contracts to players based on sentiment rather than performance.
There are always other reasons why players leave, however we heard from our owner that he doesn’t like to give contracts too early because in American Football players play better in their final year.
This is the strategy and message from the top and it’s bollocks.

Luckily we seem to be getting rid of the deadwood using hindsight and signing the promising youngsters on longer terms deals.
Please don’t take opposing views to your own too personally, if we all clapped along then forums would be pointless.
Ndiaye, Berge, Lundstram (take away the strop and he was one of our better players at the time) all named by yourself, the issue being that we didn’t replace the skills lost by any of the above after they left.Which high performing players have we, in your opinion, allowed to leave on the cheap in recent years?
If you make a compelling offer then it goes a long way to getting the deal done.Your first sentence is the real point though. You can't "make sure contracts are signed." How? Very arguable that Lundstram was one of our better players, he had half a good season over the entire length of his contract.Ndiaye, Berge, Lundstram (take away the strop and he was one of our better players at the time) all named by yourself, the issue being that we didn’t replace the skills lost by any of the above after they left.
Further back as a selling club: Adams, Murphy, Maguire, Brooks, McDonald, Lowton, Blackman, Williamson etc. however the context behind these was different as we were league 1 and skint so weren’t really in a position to negotiate.
As I said, it wasn’t just about those who we haven’t renewed, there are a lot of instances where contracts have been renewed for too long for past it players.Very arguable that Lundstram was one of our better players, he had half a good season over the entire length of his contract.
None of the players in your 2nd paragraph left because we allowed their contracts to run down.
That leaves us with the very specific cases of Berge & Ndiaye. Over a 10 year period. So the only sensible conclusion is that your assertion that we are bad at renewing contracts was wrong.
Overall contract management has been terrible though.Very arguable that Lundstram was one of our better players, he had half a good season over the entire length of his contract.

We're about to lose Baldock, Egan, McBurnie, Foderingham, Lowe etc etc. There'll be no return on those playersWe do, actually.

If we weren't quite so shit on the pitch a lot more would be made of thisWe're about to lose Baldock, Egan, McBurnie, Foderingham, Lowe etc etc. There'll be no return on those players
Yep, quite natural when a player reaches the end of their usefulness. gets older or develops regular injury issues. Only McBurnie there we might have got a decentish fee for. Would you have renewed them all a year ago, with resigning bonuses etc? We're about to lose Baldock, Egan, McBurnie, Foderingham, Lowe etc etc. There'll be no return on those players
Or if they were major assets that we are desperate to pay huge salaries to keep.If we weren't quite so shit on the pitch a lot more would be made of this
