There is a difference between club captain and playing captain.
Robbo has probable been chosen as club captain because of his experience and enthusiasm, which will enable him to influence the team and more importantly represent players opinions to the coaching staff. Oh and organise the Christmas party

I'd like Robinson to be understudy to a CB, but he's captain again so guess he's gonna be 1st choice with Anel or Bindon.

Seems a lot on paper but we have to factor in:

• Davies shouldn’t be relied upon as one of the first 2 choices for CM based on his fitness, we need depth here & if he features it’s a bonus.
• Blaster’s coming back from a bad injury, needs time.
• Ukaki & Caceres shouldn’t be one of the first 2 options this season, too much of an unknown quantity at Chanp level.
• Moore potentially on his way out, doesn’t fit the manager’s style.
• One, Barry & Brooks look promising but are young players, will lack consistency.
• Soumare is a young player adapting to a new level & country.

So I think it’s entirely reasonable to have a slightly bigger squad & options to compensate for some of this. Combine it with Selles’ high intensity style & we’ll need to use the bench better this season - a good squad is vital now, Leeds showed it last season having 2 strong options for each position.

The way we've been playing pre-season with Hamer Central suggests we'll probably line up with just one DCM alongside Hamer, with an attacking Mid behind the front 3.

I've listed Caceres as last choice Attacking midfielder, but also didn't include Antman as an option there who would be ahead of him.

Ukaki is way down list of winger options. Not sure how you got to him being 2nd choice ?

I still think we need 2 CBs and a RB.

Again on Robinson, he's been made club captain and if you look back we've had people in that role who are generally the longest serving and a "culture carrier" to use a Wilder term. They set the standards within the squad, help the younger players, keep others in line and ensure everyones aligned with what we're trying to do.
For all the Robinson criticism I think he's probably the best placed player in the squad to currently do that, but most importantly, it doesn't mean he's starting every week.

Not sure Brooks is a 100% nailed on starter for promotion chasing sides yet. Competition would force him to improve rather than coasting to having it regardless

Weren’t saying you were mate, just making general points but you’d listed the options out quite handily to reply to!

Really we want 2 good options per position & there’s a few players who’ve featured a lot in pre-season I wouldn’t necessarily want us relying on over 46 games.

He isn't Ndiaye, so don't expect that type of player, but he is an assist wizard who often is in the right place at the right time during the game.
