Do any older Blades remember a player called John Cutbush? He played for the Blades between 1977-1981. Was he any good? He's just started working with me now.

I'd have to check but I'm pretty sure Franks was a right back, Cliff Calvert left back, a past-it Ed Colquohoun and John Flynn as centre halfs. Dennis Longhorn and Steve Ludlam in midfield. They were poor but still better than the rubbish that Haslam brought in.
We even used him up front at times when trying to rescue lost causes.
Colin Franks, when we signed him was described as a 'utility player'. He could play right back, centre back and midfield. We even used him up front at times when trying to rescue lost causes. He was known as 'fast Colin' when at Watford as he once won the professional footballers sprint championship (yes they actually had one of those back then!).
Cutbush, as Eckingtonian said, signed from Fulham and was a good athlete if a little lightweight. He was always steady in a team that was in rapid decline.
Cliff Calvert was signed as a right back from York by Ken Furphy to replace an ageing and slowing Len Badger. Calvert was primarily right sided but did, I believe, make the odd appearance at left back.

He was pretty much our regular right back for the next 3 seasons, seeing off "challenges" from the likes of Tony Moore and Craig Renwick. By 80-81 he was visibly on the decline and was so bad that he even lost his place to Tony Moore at times (and those who remember Moore will know how bad he must have been).
From what I remember, Cutbush was a very reliable player, and yes eventually lost his place to Tony Moore. He then retired, probably out of shame!! Hmm, Tony Moore, that name sends shivers down my spine.
Are you two sure that Tony Moore was a right back? I could have sworn that he was a left back and Paul Casey was a right back around the same time.
I remember seeing them play in those positions for the reserves and was pleased when they made through it into the first team together.
Remember John Cutbush very well and if my memory is not playing tricks I recall he had a good spell at the lane.Do any older Blades remember a player called John Cutbush? He played for the Blades between 1977-1981. Was he any good? He's just started working with me now.
That probably is the connection that my mind was searching for.I remember him very well. I always thought he was a good steady right back. Good at overlapping.
I found out after he finished playing with us that he used to go to the school I began my teaching career at. Ask him about Aylesford school on Teapot lane.
