That game was on Big Match revisited recently. How on earth that finished 5-1 I will never know. We were by far the better side.I also found our 5-1 defeat at Leeds in 1974. Dearden scoring a consolation and Eddy missed a penalty, but decided against as who really wants to watch that!
And here it is if you can bear to watch. Note Elton John presenting The Big Match....Broke Doc Pace's post war goal record (think it was 141). Woody's post war record of 157 goals still stands. Two ex-Blades scored all Bristol Rovers goals. Dave Staniforth and Alan Warboys (2)
Yes in addition to Eddy's missed pen, we hit the woodwork twice and had numerous chances. Whereas two or three of their goals came from some horrific defending. That game was on Big Match revisited recently. How on earth that finished 5-1 I will never know. We were by far the better side.

Yes I was at Elland Road that day, we were all over them in the 1st half! That game was on Big Match revisited recently. How on earth that finished 5-1 I will never know. We were by far the better side.
I was at that match, but the dust of decades made me think that Andy Kennedy scored the winner. More grey hairs than grey cells now obviously...Beagrie's acrobatic goal celebration!
Classic King Keith v Bradford City March 1986...
Liked Mel Eves. Real livewire to cope with....3 good goals. That was Mel Eves’ only goal that season after scoring 9 the year before: he was injured a lot.
Andy Kennedy played for us on loan the season beforeI was at that match, but the dust of decades made me think that Andy Kennedy scored the winner. More grey hairs than grey cells now obviously...

Yes I was thinking after I watched it, how many times in that period from say 1976 to 1981 did we lose after leading by 2 goals?I still have nightmares about this game; it sums up that era of United's history.
Millwall at home 28th March 1981,was very costly at the end of the season!Yes I was thinking after I watched it, how many times in that period from say 1976 to 1981 did we lose after leading by 2 goals?
I remember thinking that we were doomed after that Millwall game. And I was right.Millwall at home 28th March 1981,was very costly at the end of the season!
Yes it was a bad one, though as well you know we still had enough chances to escape!I remember thinking that we were doomed after that Millwall game. And I was right.
We spent a total of 5 minutes in the relegation zone all season. Unfortunately it was the last 5 minutes.Yes it was a bad one, though as well you know we still had enough chances to escape!
can remember seing the coaches coming back up snig hill while we were queing to get in the merrie england bar under the black swanThought Blackburn had taken the kop for a minute. It's actually at Blackburn, not the Lane.
I do keep checking on You Tube, my hope is that one day a video of United v Walsall will appear (I don't know why it was a depressing game, but a big moment in my childhood). I enjoyed seeing the videos you did of United in the 80s. I always thought Porterfield wasn't given the credit he deserved for that period. When I was putting videos together years ago I was looking all over for some of this stuff.
There used to be a very good website listing all United's various TV appearances. Its sadly defunct, but I copied it before it died. Sad to say, the Walsall game was not on the list and, so, is highly unlikely to have been filmed by anyone.I do keep checking on You Tube, my hope is that one day a video of United v Walsall will appear (I don't know why it was a depressing game, but a big moment in my childhood).
