programmechap , you can see in the 3rd clip the players congratulating the scorer Bob Hatton. Hatton scored against Exeter, not Swindon. Another clue between the 2nd and 3rd clip, you can see the half time scores at the bottom of the South Stand in the 2nd clip but were already removed in the 3rd clip. We attacked the Kop End in the 1st half against Swindon and for the Exeter match we attacked the Kop End in the 2nd half.

Crikey. The only way that would happen these days is if someone was giving out free Piccolo Lattes and Portobello Mushroom and Halloumi Wraps pitchside.

I've always been convinced it was Swindon as I thought i was at the match it was filmed at (I was on holiday when we played Exeter).

You live and learn...
 



👍He had a physique like a cruiser weight boxer when I played against him,seemed a nice lad,chatted after the match about being a long suffering Blade.

What nobody ever mentions about that game and season is how ordinary Man U were. They finished 8th, for the second season in a row, a mere 2 points ahead of us. Then they dropped to 18th, and then they were relegated. Best’s magic notwithstanding that was a team on the slide.

You hear about that game you assume they were the European Cup holders or something. They weren’t.

Their new manager Frank O'Farrell, who led Leicester to the 2nd division title the previous season, had started well but he had lost his way with 7 successive defeats starting from the 1st of January. He then signed Ian Storey-Moore from Forest (Brian Clough of Derby was desperate to sign him and he thought he had got him by persuading him to be paraded to the fans before a match) and Martin Buchan from Aberdeen but the former didnt play many games due to injuries. In the following season George Best had lost form, Bobby Charlton was frustrated with the team losing form and decided to retire from playing at the end of the season. O'Farrell was sacked before Xmas 1972 after they lost 5-0 at Palace.

There was reduced capacity at Man U that season. I assume there was building work of some kind. Hence the lock out that day

you must have only just got in bert round about that time that they announced that the gates were shutting should have been an all ticket match we would have filled that end you can see when best scored that goal all the fans on that end were mancs mind they had been queuing from 9.30 that morning most of our fans didnt stand a chance of getting in
