When I was 8, my teacher marked my piece on dinosaurs by writing in red ink next to the word "Pteranodon", "I've not heard of this one - are you sure it existed?" I wouldn't mind, but an 8-year-old spelling "Pteranodon" correctly was no mean feat, I can tell you. It was only when Ozric Tentacles released Jurassic Shift in 1993, 19 years on, that I was finally satisfied I was right and Mrs Hill was wrong.

I wouldnt listen to teachers, my maths teacher told me at aged 12 "you won't have a calculator with you every where you go as an adult"

If you like the boxing books these two take some beating. Emile Griffith is a legend to me, all he wanted to do in life was make ladies hats but he got press ganged into boxing and the rest is history. Killed Benny Paret in the ring, and I'm pretty sure you know the background to it and led a very secretive life. Being black back then was bad enough but being gay as well he had to be very careful.

The other one shows just how corrupt boxing was back in the day and you have to have a strong stomach to read about the fight where Max Baer basically got away with murder. I had a chat with the author and she was a nice lass, meticulous in her research and you can see in the level of detail.

Jethro out of The Beverly Hillbillies was Max Baer's son.

Not sure Fulham ever bought that many....is it Birmingham as looks like noel Blake?
Think it is Noel Blake, but think it’s Pompey in 86 when they had 3 men sent off. Paul Mariner with a OG to give us the win. Or maybe the game in April of that year.

that was because 10k leeds fans were on the shoreham that night majority in the ground 2 hours before kick off when gates opened they were determined to take it that night after failing miserably in their 2 previous night visits
The first and only time (to date :))I've been ejected from the ground
I got in VERY early, aged 16, stood down to the right centre of the kop on my own and with a scarf through my belt loop, Leeds fans already above and to the rear where I normally stood
Then a load more of them came in from the bottom right, running up to join their mates, with me just standing in-between like a lemon
One took a swing and missed, the next one kicked me and I tried to punch him ( a paper bag would have resisted my punch at the time)
The next thing I knew, a copper picked me up by the scruff of my neck and threw me out of the ground (no time for paperwork!!)

Luckily I had enough money to pay to get in again

Never liked Leeds since

leeds and man utd only two teams to take the shoreham in league games wednesday still brag that they took it twice in the 70s but one a testimonial and 1 a county cup game when none of our lads turned up theyve never come remotely close in any league games and came unstuck really badly in the september 67 derby at the lane

I think it’s the 0-0 draw in April 1986. Noel Blake wearing 5 for Pompey, Tony Philliskirk wearing 9 for us (he did not play v Pompey the following year) and a healthy away following - they brought a lot as they were pushing for promotion.

Having said all that I can’t remember them wearing their change shirts that day. They were definitely in blue for the 3 sent off game.

More Boro… any memories jogged?

Ever since the 70s, they have only brought a few hundred, IIRC.

It's only since they got in the Prem, they have managed to bring a couple of thousand.

Boxing Day.
Attacking the Lane End in the first half TC dribbled past John Craggs then waved at the crowd, a furious Craggs got up quickly and then tacked TC from behind before waving at the crowd! Craggs got booked.

1-1 draw, Garner equalising for us.

Remember being stood at the roundabout bottom of the Lane, away supporters coach came past me with the door open & a big bearded Boro youth threw one of those dimpled handled pint pots at me.

Funny how things like that stick in the memory.

Waste of a good pint pot!

Does anyone have any ticket from the 1971/72 season for the Bramall Lane lower, standing enclosure/paddock? Just need visibility of one for design purposes. Just post an image here. Cheers.

Nannie Doss, aka the Giggling Granny, the Lonely Hearts Killer, the Black Widow and Lady Blue Beard. Serial killer who murdered 11 people (at least) between 1927 and 1954. She got the giggling granny name because she had fits of giggles when she was talking about her crimes...
