Thanks for the info, I really must get out more.
I remember the site late, forties, with the steel work erected and just thought it was another bomb site from the blitz.
Some time ago I saw on an old street map it was marked as a foundry, hence my previous remark. I've remembered it because it was a surprise to find a foundry so close to the town centre.
Is the Joseph Rodgers the Rodgers in this 1960's photo. The factory running centre L to R full width of photo.View attachment 103543
Yes. This was Joseph Rodgers Sheaf Island Works and was probably where the forge was you mentioned earlier. I always remember the far left of this building being the Sheffield Council Housing Department. There were several forges on that stretch, presumably due to the close proximity of the river running along Sheaf Street.

The site I mentioned as a forge was at the bottom of Norfolk St.
Now, I am, overall, unknowledgeable with the manufacturing of cutlery. would there be a forge shop in a cutlery manufacturers.
I will endeavour to seek out the forge map and any other info appertaining this subject and post accordingly. Please be patient as there is another part of my life that takes priority over all else.
Reference SC Housing Offices they were in the block bordered by Pond Hill, River Lane and the river Sheaf, on the right of my posted photo, at least to my knowledge from the mid 60's. :)

Excellent photo with exceptional clarity, thanks Bert. Eddie Hopkinson looking at the No 5 and thinking, "who are you marking, expletive"
Always equate him with Hodgy, both simular build, both very able, both above average and both vied for the England spot.
I Could never understand why he played so many more times for England than Hodgy, there wasn't a ciggy paper between them.
Len Allchurch knocking it in after work by Doc on floor, left and Hartle No11.

No sure if it was the 3-1 win (Pace, Russell 2) in March 1962 (Hartle played) or the 4-1 win (Pace, Hodgson 2, Allchurch) in October 1962 (Simpson was number 11)

Same here, was thinking Ronnie Simpson had more of a reseeding hairline but no.1962 Ron Simpson.jpgEdit- need times of goals for both games, look at pavilion clock, there lies the clue. :) Being lazy will leave it to yourself.

Silent, after enlargement believe no11 is no 10, either Russell or Hodgson, which would mean nothing as they both scored so the goal time seems the best bet. Time of goal recon would be18 mins.

Fargate, Aug 1986.
Quite a bit on here on the verge of disappearing or moving.

Below, Church Street, Dec 1985. I'd forgotten quite how depressing some parts of Sheffield had become around that time.

As a kid it never really occurred to me how dirty the buildings were. They’d been like that as long as I could remember. It was only when they started cleaning them that I realised. I was shocked after they’d cleaned St Mary’s.
