mick jones was never used by revie as he played for us especially on corners mick used to start his run from corner of 18 yard box and woody would hit the corner at pace bang on to his forehead 12 yards out no better example of that than the goal against man utd boxing day 66 nearly broke back of net on kop end stepney never moved great centre forward of the time was mick jones was devastated when we sold him to leeds
Yes, remember the devastation well, and as you well know, it became a regular occurrence for many a year after. Sigh!!!!

revie wanted birchenhall as well as mick jones in september 67 but wraggy didnt want both sell both of em but then sold sherman to chelsea

Xmas Eve 1973. Woody got another on Boxing Day, scoring the winner at Old Trafford, and scoring again against Chelsea on New Year's Day

Quite sad that I could give you the first name of almost every one of those players ,and apart from us I couldnt name you a first team of any other team in the world.

By the time I was 10 , I could name the preferred First Xl of almost all the teams in the top flight and many of those in Div. 2 .

Just saying , like . :)

Am I struggling to pinpoint exactly where this is. Am I right in assuming that the street off to the right with the 'Stones, Cannon Ales' sign is Cherry St. If so how do the cars get onto the, into town track on the left of the road? Was there a cross over point to left of photo or are these cars to take passengers to Meadow Head. Calling all transport enthusiasts and folk who experienced the system.
Notice a bus on the left of photo. What's it trying to do? Looks in an unusual position.
The vehicle behind car 367, on Cherry St, resembles a railway carriage. Strange.
Great photo, SB, tram loads of nostalgia and questions.

I think you are right in saying that is Cherry Street off to the right. My only input is that tram cars had a driving position at either end and the pantograph (the arm connecting the tram to the electricity supply) was swung round at the terminus, the seats were flipped over to face the direction of travel and the tram then used a crossing point to travel back into town. Presumably there was a crossing point somewhere on Shoreham Street as you suggest. The only other thing I can recall was that in damp or icy conditions the pantograph arm often crackled and created a shower of sparks as it was moved round!!

Or walked to the other end past the pavillion

used to be a few skirmishes in front of the old cricket pavilion between united and away fans can remember leeds fans doing that route a couple of times from lane end trying to get on kop and both times coming off second best only time they managed it was at easter 74 when 10k of the b******s congregated on the kop 2 hours before kick off 🤨

Remember our 3-0 win one night. As I came into the ground was nearly hit by a Leeds fan who "fell" off the wall near the stairwell that used to be in the corner.
Was a night of battles all over both on and off the pitch
