A well known and colourful character from Bert’s parish when I was growing up was a certain Walt Walker and was wondering if Bert had any photos / stories relating to him .

As I recall , he owned both the garages / petrol stations at either end of Ecclesfield Common and had 3 very attractive daughters , the youngest being Esme who was once engaged to Johnny Fantham.

Bert ?
Bert remembers Walker's garage. Top of the Common was a Regent garage. Bottom one was later Eric Stead's, now owned by his son Trevor, an old mate of Bert's. Trevor's son was a top Speedway rider.

Bert seems to recall that one of the Walker daughters was called Caroline.

A few years ago one of my colleagues was moving to work in one of our US plants and he had a MGF he wanted £7,000 for. Long story short but after 6wks of wrangling I got him down to £5,000. After 3 weeks the head gasket went and I was quoted £700 by Eric Steads to repair it.....my colleague thought this was hilarious and said it was karma for screwing him on price. Eric Stead’s repaired it but when taking it out for a test run the mechanic crashed it and wrote it off......they gave me £6,800 as full settlement.....only one person laughing at the end😊

Could be this Pond St photo is late1940's even wartime, note street light and tram cable supports are painted white a requirement for the blackout. Also there only two "platforms" of the bus station. To the right of the Lyceum is the SUT Pond St office.
As time past it became to look like thisPond St Bus Station circa late 1940's early 50's.jpg
God! Remember waiting for buses, in those so called shelters, on cold wet days when 5/6 years old, obviously left a mark in my brain.
A better shot of the Lyceum pub. Any memories anyone, went in a few times to pass time before travel, back end '61.Pond Hill-Lyceum Hotel.jpg
Strangely found this photo of the stop where I caught the No. 25 BeiPond St Bus Station Harmer Lane R-25 Beighton Stop used returning from school.jpgghton en rout home from school, as mentioned before, where also Mark Pearson caught the same bus when he retuned home on days off at Man. Utd. circa 1956-58.

March 1984.
A shot from the top floor caretaker's flat of Sheaf Bank Works. Heeley, looking south over Gleadless Road railway bridge towards the site of the old Heeley station and beyond.
I've also attached an up to date google earth image to get bearings and compare - (yellow arrow for direction). Superficially, nothing much actually seems to have changed apart from that old goods carriage has gone, the Bridge (Inn?) is no longer a pub and St Peter's church in the distance is no longer with us.

Love the
Love the BR advert for the Old Trafford game. Day out for less than a quid, 6 bob train fare, gallon of Boddy's 5 bob, 3 bob to go in, chips and fish a bob, bit left for bus fares and plenty of change left out of a quid. Them were the days !!!

Went to the Barrow game, if memory serves, who were in the 3rd North at the time. Finished on Kop side of Terrace must have been late so dived in that end instead of being just Lane side of players tunnel. Att. 20,475
I had the following home game prog. with a photo of the Barrow game on cover, which I remember colouring with poster paints. Sadly, it with others, disappeared when I moved out to work away from Sheffield some five years later.
Ronnie Waldock, I've mentioned before, Loved watching him, 150% effort, never seemed to stop running, bustling and as the photo shows never afraid to get 'stuck in'. I wonder if he remembers being carried off after colliding with a Lane End upright attempting a diving header. Did it go in, shit cannot remember, Note to self. Join Sheffield Archives.
Ronnie if you read this "Thank You" and all the best.
