Old Photos For No Reason Whatsoever

Having read the last few posts, ref 61649, it's in all probability United have both plates. Remember when the engines were scrapped the plates were give to the respective clubs.
Still not found the photos I mentioned but will post soonest there found.

I think the clubs only got one plate each. One was auctioned earlier this year or late last year, Everton from memory, which would suggest the others are in private hands. Well out of my price range by the way. I’ve just found this, £25k.

Bloody typical BR ringing out every penny, in all conscience after 23 years service they didn't owe the company anything and when all's said they gorre'm for almost nowt.
Any idea who has the United twin one?

There’s one at the Lane in the stairwell up to the boardroom. If I was allowed five minutes and armed with a cordless screwdriver I’d have the bugger away. 😆
 
Fascinating posts above regarding the trains. I remember, as a young train spotter ,regularly, seeing the engines named after football teams . I used to sit on Kettle Bridge (Darnall) throughout the 1940's. There were around 20 of these engines with footy names mostly using the old L.N.E.R. line. Vividly remember The Blades, of course , Manchester United , Derby County and , for some reason, Grimsby Town, although they were a first Division side , in those days. They were , mostly, built in the mid thirties and were withdrawn around 1959-60. Our neighbours in S6 featured, as well, but I have succesfully eradicated any memory of seeing the aforementioned engine.

You'd need a bloody good barra' to get that away, if ye could lift it in't barra'.
 
Was there a bloke in this yard made custom fishing rods? Gave a mate a lift once.
I'm afraid I can't answer that one, benn5712. I just wandered into the courtyard, took a few snaps and wandered off. I'd already found out during earlier outings that if I lingered too long in any of these places, some people got unsettled, some were only too happy to chat, but some were downright hostile- they'll be the blurred photos...🙂

Sorry, no idea whats so ever, I just hope it belongs to a Blade though and not just a railway buff.
 

Austin Cambridge?
No motor car aficionado but recon your right. To complicate it a little further, I believe you mean the Austin A55, which had 'Cambridge' on the boot lid, but apparently the A40 came under the Cambridge brand, just what I've read whilst following up on your lead.
After thought the A55 was two tone colouring so your dead right. :)

Yes, the A55 was what I had in mind.
Apparently this Cambridge bodystyle came as A40, A50 & A55 versions. To me this is an A40:

In January 1957, the A55 Cambridge was introduced to replace the A50 model. It used the same 1.5-litre B-Series engine as its predecessor, though with a higher compression ratio. It was rated at 51hp.
A deluxe A55 with manumatic transmission was tested by The Motor magazine in 1957 had a top speed of 77.1mph and could accelerate from 0-60 in 27.0 secs. A fuel consumption of 31.6 mpg was recorded. The test car cost £870 - equivalent to over £21K today!!

Actually, no it isn't a Vauxhall Cresta in your original photo - I've just magnified the screen and it looks like a Standard Ensign to me. I'll leave the Cresta photo above though because it's such a nice one eh?

There's a guy locally who has one just like this. When I say "locally" I mean somewhere in Sheffield. I've seen it a couple of times around the city and it was parked up at New Leaf garden centre, at Coal Aston, one Sunday. Beautiful design.

For many years Vauxhall's were known for having a fluted bonnet. It was a distinguishing feature of many of their cars. All that seemed to disappear in the 70's and is lost forever as, like most manufacturers, their designs are strongly influenced by aerodynamics and drag co-efficients, meaning they look like wedges of cheese instead.:(

Yes I read that too, wonder if its still in the area? Of the photo it also said the contributor lived, with his parents, in the flat above the shop. The car actually belonged to his cousin who lived with them for a while.
