Just seen the old picture of the players entrance which reminds me ,if I’m correct that there was a shop from roughly where the picture was taken from and always remember Mick Hill going in after the game then coming out and looking for the autograph hunters and saying who wants anything signing . Which my reply was got it a dozen times Mick. Anyone know where or what Mick is doing these days , does not seem to be any mention of him throughout this brilliant thread. Thinking of autograph hunting anyone remember the Topical Times the proper autograph hunters bible.

England v Scotland at Bramall Lane in 1903

Interesting to see how far the Shoreham Stand extended. Either that or they moved the scoreboard, which is as I remember as a kid 1947-50ish, at some time. Also the pitch seems to be nearer the Pavilion side than memory serves. Looks a nice day sunny, long shadows, in fact it was 14 April, England lining up

Unfortunately Mick Hill died in 2008

Was John Gannon underrated back in the day?View attachment 62800

Yes very much so, but it's not a popular opinion on here.

Obvious player performance is subjective but just watch some of the 91-94 highlights videos that get posted on here. You'll be surprised how often it is a JG pass that slots Deano, Mitch or Dane, in for a goal.

I went to the Sunday gig with one of my little brothers. Springsteen and the band were fantastic. My dad was a copper on duty for both shows, he got to see The Boss twice and got paid overtime for it. One of his colleagues was a massive Springsteen fan, and ecstatic to get to work for the weekend. My dad thought it was hilarious that his mate ended up directing traffic at Fox House all weekend. :D

I still have all my old Topical Times annuals. From about 1964 - 1970. Was a must on my Christmas gift list.

Also Charles Buchan's Soccer Gift Book.

There was also Charles Buchan Football Monthly. Junior football teams could advertise requesting matches against other local teams. We had a 5 a side team on Lowedges and arranged a match against a team at Intake. The only way we could correspond was by letter (no emails or texts) so it took weeks to get a match arranged.

As kids of about 11 years old it was exciting to get two buses to play an 'away' match in another part of the city.

Have all my old 'Shoot' magazines. I think the first one is now 50 years old. August 1969.

I went to my mates house on John Street to listen , they were touting tickets for 30 or 40 quid before the concert ,10 minutes after it started they were taking 2 quid so I had one and had a great 3 hours. Still got the ticket stub too.

Is this us? Who are we playing? I thought it might be us in the white shirts cos it looks like Cantors is the sponsor!... :D

Brentford, Tibbott and Speight. And that is the all yellow Cantors kit.
Possibly Mick Speight on the right, but not playing for us.
Yes playing for us at Brentford. Monday night match 22nd October 1979

We had a 3rd kit that season for some reason. The Ajax kit at home (with lots of white) and all white kit and then an all yellow kit. Silent Blade might be able to tell us how often the yellow kit got worn, but not very often. That game at Brentford was one, though. He are the two shirts in question.

Afraid I was a part timer in 1979/80 season although I bought a season ticket in June 1979 but in July 1979 I decided to play football on Saturdays and my dad used the season ticket when I was unable to be at the Lane. The only away match I went to that season was the BDM

Think my dad took me to this match but thought it was early eighties, the reason being we definitely won but just had a look at the record book and we lost all away games in the early eighties. Don't remember much about the game but clearly remember events after it. We were stopped by the police and made to leave our details as a brentford fan had died after skirmishes at the end of the match. It later transpired he'd had a heart attack and nothing to do with any trouble, but as a 10 year old the whole incident left me shaking all the way back home where my dad duly got a bollocking for getting me in at 1am on a school night!

Spent the first nine years living 2/3rd the way down this street. Hardly luxury living, but at least it wasn't Council 😁
What street is it Bob ? We lived on Lynmouth Rd which was similar ,tin bath , staircase like the Eiger ,outdoor shithouse and we lived in the kitchen as the oven was the only source of heat. We did however have a garden ,a small patch of grass about 3 foot by 4 in the middle of the yard with about 6 flowers round it. But it was ours and we loved it. Young uns don't believe we lived like this they think we make it up.

It’s Earsham St, just above Carlisle St. The pic was taken from Sutherland Rd end with Lyons St in the background.

There was my gran, two uncles, me, my mum and dad living in a two up, two down. We had the attic. Weren't all bad though, at least we had a pot to piss in at night.
