Beer at home need no longer be this.

Yes in 1964
At the time he came into the first team he was regarded as nesh, and sections of the crowd gave him some stick. They soon accepted him for his positive qualities, though defending was never his strong point. Except, curiously, when he acted as emergency goalkeeper, when he seemed fearless.

In the 1970's I used to go in a Davenports pub - The White Lion on Bristol Road, Birmingham. Was a very good pint. On the way home we'd call in the Holiday Inn for a final drink. Holiday Inn was right next door to the ATV studios and Bob Monkhouse would always be in before presenting the Golden Shot.

When I was a lad we got Midlands TV for a while (summat to do with Emley Moor mast falling down about 1968), and Davenport's had an advert for their home delivery ale (bit like the Coop pop man but with alcohol!). I always remembered the song - "Beer at home means Davenport's, that's the beer, lots of cheer!". Like many beer ads it was on at 9.00pm and was the signal for my dad to put his coat on and disappear "for t'last hour"! Years later I was a student at Coventry Poly, and we had hand-pulled Davenport's in the student union bar (commonly known as "trad"). There's no happy ending, it was shite, only to be drunk when you were too skint to sup owt else!! Was only about 25p a pint though, so we weren't that bothered (or that fussy!!).

Memories! The old Asda at Handsworth, my Mum was a supervisor there for years. Scene of the jacket theft in the Full Monty.

Jesus that brings back memories , my mother used to be the only car parked in the bottom car park when the top one was a quarter full , better safe than sorry with her parking skills .. god bless her !

I used to work with a bloke who used to tell us stories about his wife's driving. He used to tell us she would drive around a car park until she could find two together (in front of each other) so that she could drive through to the front one, then later drive off forwards because she couldn't reverse.

Another Berni Inn on the left hand side - the Norton. Prawn cocktails and Black Forest gateau. Brocklehurst garage on the right hand side. Used to have an advert on television......

'You can always trust the car you buy from Brocklehurts of Sheffield'.

Jordanthorpe schools over to the left. Wonder if this was taken before Batemoor estate was built. Transport ground over to to the right - still there.

You must have worked our old fella HB :)

Thanks for that Silent. Having grown up in Dronfield in the 60s it brings back memories.
Those old "finger-style" signposts were crazy weren't they? If you didn't know the road you had to stop at each junction and peer at the signposts to try to figure out which way to go. It caused no end of arguments when we went on holiday by car.

When did the junction first had a roundabout? Before the 1970s?

1995 - I went along to watch the unveiling (not my picture though!).

I was part of the BIFA steering committee that proposed and eventually paid for that. I can still remember when it was first suggested too, but trying to rack my brains to whose idea it originally was..

I ended up in Rossi's with Sean having a long conversation with him about the Blades and also the fact his old man had connections with my brother-in-law and his dad - due to them both living on Beaver Hill.

Interesting question - my Auntie moved to Longcroft Road in the "new" Dronfield Woodhouse and I can never remember it being like that. Sure she moved early 70's, perhaps very late 60's.

Someone on here will know........

I've got a street map from about 1973 that shows a roundabout at four lane ends. I'm afraid I've nothing earlier to shed any light on the matter. I may be remembering it from the '50s cos I lived in that area from '55 onwards.

Just beyond Jordanthorpe was Rowlinson, 1952-1957 for me.
Remember the police box on the side by the Sheffield transport pitches.
The Bernie Inn very popular in those days.
Probably before Low Edges was built which I recall was into the 60.s
Brocklehursts very flash car dealership on the junction.
Well served by public transport, tram to Meadowhead, joint bus service with Chesterfield running through to Chesterfield and Booth and Fisher running past Rowlinson down Dyche Lane and onto Halfway starting in Sheffield at the moor bottom.
Many memories from that image.

Was like that for some time even when Dronfield Woodhouse being developed as in 1962 on marriage we bought a house on Paddock Way so the junction was very familiar to us going through it daily to work in Sheffield.
I recall one bad winter walking all the way to West Street Sheffield as no transport was available.
They made us tough in those days.

couple of old photographs in this BBC article about the Superga plane crash in Turin 1949 which did for the Torino team - champions of Italy. There is an SUFC connection, a man called Lievesley .... has anyone heard of him?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46788983

This article is principally about his grandson Bill (his Dad was a coach who perished in the crash) .... the grandson was dragged bag from a footballer's lifestyle in Turin to a coal-board house in Rossington .... which, unsurprisingly is a source of great regret to him ....

.... (Rosso Blade still about? no offence mate - I miss the Delly)

This might look familiar to you.

The Meadowhead picture was taken in 1966 according to Picture Sheffield so the roundabout was built sometime after that.
I can recall there being a skittle alley in the Norton, at the the Norton Lane entrance, before it went in one of its many refurbishments.

My auntie also lived in Dronfield Woodhouse in the 70s. I have vague memories of a carnival and a ‘donkey derby’. Nowt to do with Pigs v Dingles, it was an actual donkey race.

We moved to Longcroft Road in 1958. Dronfield Woodhouse was still very much a village then, long before they built all those houses in the Gosforth Valley, effectively joining Dronny Woodhouse to Dronfield itself.
I also vaguely remember the donkey derbies. Held at the 'rec' I think. There was also a sports day every summer (egg and spoon race, etc). We were easily amused in those days!
