There's was a plan in the early 70s for a monorail system to wend its way through the city centre, but it never got off the ground(metaphorically and literally). Can't remember the name it was to be given, but something like mini rail or something similar. I have got a brochure for it somewhere.

Can picture exactly where we used to stand back in the 70s, right at the back near the exit on the right.
For a couple of years circa 78/79 I'd pay in to the Kiddies Corner ( sounded so innocent in those days) climb over the railings and go and stand on the fence bang next to the tunnel.
Remember Gordon Lee laughing at me as ten man Blackburn effectively relegated us to the 3rd Division , and Happy Harry constantly having a fag on.

Oh and Les Tibbott, displaying uncharacteristic accuracy, throwing me a ball with Redgates on it pre match.

That would have been handy. It would have taken us from the, erm, Castle Market, past erm, C&A and the Hole in the Road and on to the Moor and those famous shopping emporiums, erm, Redgates, Suggs, BHS and Marks and Spencer. Oh well, on the bright side if we'd built that, we wouldn't have had any money left over to invest in those fantastic sporting facilities at Don Valley Stadium.

The photo is from a book by Richard Wiseman & is taken on Orgreave Lane, Handsworth.
Sheffield corporation tried two experimental green liverys in 1952 to try & cut re painting costs. It was applied to 23 trams in total along with several buses.
There was two different liverys, the dark green one as seen in the photo, & a lighter green version with dark green bands.
The public outcry was enough to force the corporation to go back to their original colours & within 14 months, all the green ones had been repainted in blue & Cream.

Remember it well, what a dreadful colour that green was, whatever shade.
We had one of the best transport systems in the UK, my grandad was a tram driver, bitterly cold in winter driving without any sealed doors.
What a luxury when the last tram design came out with the sealed compartment for the driver.
Recall the old design as when leaving the tram from upstairs we always tried to stand on the bell.
Always knew when a tram was coming as if you listened hard enough one could hear the vibration in the tracks.
Anyone interested in the old trams can spend a very good day at the tram museum at Crich, near Matlock.

When did the walk way in the middle appear on John St Terrace?

Similar question. The tunnel used to enter the pitch in between the two dug outs. It was possible to walk from one side of the terrace to the other at the top of the tunnel. Tight squeeze but possible. When did the tunnel get moved?

Correct. Always good for a pint before a gig across the road. Particularly if you were under 18. None of this photo ID stuff back in the day.
