First time I've seen the Darnall track my dad and grandad was regulars there.
They used to call the first bend there "the piss corner bend" for obvious reasons

The ball is near his feet which looks really odd. Should be closer to his chest.

What a disappointment he was. Having been brilliant for Forrest winning the league and then Villa winning the European Cup, we got some knackerd old windbag who wanted to try and score all his goals with his chest......from the half way line.

At one point we really were the 'Bus pass Blades' with McNaught, Big-nose-Thompson, Mortimer, Withe & Budgie all in their mid 30s in the same team. Porterfield kept us up in Division 2, but christ it was hard work to watch.

My favourite place when I was a kid. If I was "lucky" we would get the tram back via Beauchief crossroads and up Abbey Lane to see how the other half lived. Never in my wildest dreams, as a seven year old, would I have been living there twenty years later.

A new image of an old object, if that is allowed. My grandad was an ARP warden in the war, and me and my brother begged this off him in the late 50s, painted it, and made a lot of noise with it up and down the country. What chance of getting it in the ground now? Main problem was when we moved to the Lane end for the second half if United were kicking 'the wrong way'; the old codgers (younger than me now, probably) grumbled no end about the racket. It would solve the library problem, though!
