That's Fir Vale last week!"OLD IRON!" There used to be a rag and bone man at the London Rd end of Hill St.
Sometimes it was a horse pulling the cart, sometimes a poor fella pulling the cart.

I'm in that picture.Something else the wankers from S6 can't brag aboutView attachment 22650
I'm in that picture.
I may be getting fussy in me old age, but some of these are right munters!
Unless of course, it was ladies darts night?
I think I was talking about the picture after the promotion.Kent was talking about the photo in the coach
whilst trying to see what St. James' Park used to look like I unearthed this photo of some of the outstanding players of the post-war era...

Finney, Armfield, Trautmann, Clough, Hagan, Matthews ...... perhaps Alpine knows the occasion ? (is that the old Wolves manager McGarry there with them? & a Man Utd player I can't remember the name of (Carey??? (I'm only 53)), is it a League representative XI ?
Also, an early photo of Newcastle United v Old Etonians who, regardless of the impracticalities used to play in their old school uniforms at the time probably just to rub it in that they could afford new suits and hats after every match.....

How does that Newcastle player get away with being so far inside the oppositions half when they're kicking off ?

Dundee United 0 Blades 1 (Jones)
is it somewhere in Scotland, I thought the buildings in the background look a bit like tenements in Glasgow?? St James' Park used to have concrete crush barriers but I don't think that looks like the terrace there and United wouldn't be wearing the usual kit there....or would they?

First game i remember your Dad taking me to Peter.Jimmy Hagan's testimonial. I read that it was a very cold night and I shudder to think how the players felt wearing the short sleeved shirts
You are right about Bill Mc Garry. Alf McMichael of Newcastle is the player between Trautmann and Clough

Just had another look at the 1961 photo. Dont see anyone without a shirt. Reece joined us in 1965I think I was talking about the picture after the promotion.
As this is such a brilliant thread I will revisit later and clear up the mystery Silent.
