Hagan and the King....stood between Sir Stanley and Joe Mercer
Wembley 1944
View attachment 22062
Just to fill in the rest for you, To the left of my father is Joe Mercer, Tommy Lawton and Billy Wright. Stan Cullis is captain just hidden behind the king and the least well known to my dads and Stan Matthews right is Leslie Smith from Aston Villa.

I've never seen a badge like that. Anyone know anything about it? Was it the forerunner to the current badge?

It does look a bit menacing and like the skull and cross bones. Not that there's owt wrong with that!
That was the badge my father designed in the early fifties for a tour of Holland. Not sure how long before it was modified but it was certainly the forerunner of the modern badge.

Remember going in the Brunswick one New Years Eve night and am pretty sure it was their final night before closing. Must have been sometime in the late 1970's. For a short period of time in 1974 I worked across the road at Woolco's (new brand name of Woolworths) and used to go in the Brunswick at lunchtimes.

That rings a bell, although I think you mean Castle Market, not Sheaf. I seem to think it was around Christmas time back in the 60's but could be wrong
Indeed - Castle market. Bit later than that for me. Early to mid 80s, unless it was from visiting family during the 70s (was born in exile but moved back aged 8). Just a vague memory of tatty roundabouts and a helter skelter????

I remember back in the mid 70's, Teddy Boys stood outside this pub on a Saturday afternoon.
There was a Teddy Boy Rock and Roll revival mid 70s there was a right crew of them in the Barley Corn

This is a brilliant thread, I cannot keep saying "like"

I like them all particularly the shots of the old GPO in Fitzallan Square and the transport system, buses and trams.
My father worked at the GPO and my granddad, my other granddad drove a tram.
Harringtons in the market brings back memories as I used to buy shirts there.
So many memories keep flooding back.

Just for you KB. I think it's Chesterfield Road, but not sure.
