Harringtons - where you had to climb a ladder to a poky changing room. Health and Safety would have a field day nowadays.

Bloody South Yorkshire Metropolitan Council!

We'd always had lovely clean white buses and trams with a bit of, ahem, livery. Then SYT come along and decide to paint all our buses pink.
Fortunately that didn't last long and we moved to the familiar cream and biege.

Early 60s? Park Hill built (61) but no Oyl in t'road.

The bus is going to run over that old man if he doesn't walk a bit faster. Luckily, there's an umpire standing in the road and it looks like he's given the driver out.

Nice of the council to splash a bit of left over pink paint on the building behind. Really brightens it up.

Was the photographer's mate having a wee across the bottom left corner there? Pity the shoppers below in that case.

Yes, they were allowed to mount the pavements and chase after errant pedestrians in those days.

Now, bloody Elf and Safety laws mean that buses have to stay on the roads. Bloody killjoys!

The umpire is PC McGarry from nearby Camberwick Green. They'd drafted all available officers into Town, as the Massive were at home.

Is it my dodgy memory, or was there an indoor fairground on the upper floor of sheaf market?

That rings a bell, although I think you mean Castle Market, not Sheaf. I seem to think it was around Christmas time back in the 60's but could be wrong

I think that some of the gob on his shirt is mine but definitely not all it.

Still laughing about when he first ran to the Kop with his arms outstretched and seemed suprised by 10,000 Blades spitting at him and chucking coins.

Super-Pig incarnate!

Is this in the town centre?

That's Megatron. Giant Victorian storm drain; goes under the station/Ponds Forge...that sort of area. One of the city's best kept secrets for a long time and many still don't know about it.

As part of the regeneration of the Castle Market area currently under construction, there are plans to run tours down into the storm drain itself from the little park they're building, which I can't wait for.

Great video here which gives a real sense of what it's like down there.
