I used to live across from the chimney on crown place after the pubs and shops had been demolished.

Can't remember the order or names now but on that block going up from the Samson there was a bakers/cake shop, barbers, Toy Shop, women's clothes, children's clothes, florist great chip shop, some I can't recall at the moment and Willoughbys Newsagents on the corner. A dark little place run by two sisters.

Across the road, fruit and veg, butchers a post office? And Gunstones.

Further up Duke Street opposite Park Hill there was a cafe, bookies and a kids clothes shop, some office and a couple of others. Then School Street where I went to St Johns and then further up Peaches beer off, Weigh Lane, butchers, fruit and veg, fresh fish, Red Lion Conservative Club, undertakers and the New Inn. Then round on Bernard Street to Butchers Sweet shop.
