Not sure, must have been mid sixties....like Silent said, probably cleared after the Aberfan disaster in '66.Anyone any idea on a year for this ?
They scored late in both halves...over 41,000..Typical Martin Peters ghosting in at the far post at the Lane End,then Gilzean late equaliser..Dearden and Scullion for United wasn't it.1971 at The Lane 2-2, long throws from Chivers, flicked on by Gilzean denied us victory.
No relation![]()
Name the opposition player
Dave Stringer (Norwich City)
I've been speaking with my mum today who lived behind it on Wybourn house road and she said one of her primary school friends got killed on the slag heap when she was 11,she's now 81,a young lad called Brian fiddler, got buried when there was some sort of landslide on it,tragic story. Not sure, must have been mid sixties....like Silent said, probably cleared after the Aberfan disaster in '66.

The hideaway? It had everything going on there, football, boxing, gymnastics and I can even remember a dance crew practicing there,an hip hop crew who's name as slipped my mind at the moment..so I obviously can't remember them before you all start getting on at me,I used to box at that youth club under flats near the Target boozer.
Henry Hall was the trainer
It was a sunny day, absolutely packed on the Kop.They scored late in both halves...over 41,000..Typical Martin Peters ghosting in at the far post at the Lane End,then Gilzean late equaliser..Dearden and Scullion for United wasn't it.

Did George mcabe have anything to do with united in the late 70s early 80s? His name rings a bell with me somehow.Went before all that. George McCabe, ex FIFA referee was the head honcho there when I went.

Yeah remember it being rammed,we were at the front of Kop just to right of the goal as you look out to the pitch. It was a sunny day, absolutely packed on the Kop.
Know what you mean ST...trouble is I'm struggling allround...Some games are just a blurI remember Gilzeans equaliser as if it was yesterday for some reason.
Mind you, if he'd scored it yesterday I'd be struggling.....

Was he a scout? When I played for the junior blades early 80s,Danny begara use to come and take a few training sessions with us every now and then and am sure George mcabe use to come and watch us train, might be wrong. The very same Corky.

Am sure he use to call for a pint in railway in early 90s after home games aswell.Liaison Officer I think

The old classic cinema in Fitzalan square my auntie worked there late 70s and early 80s so plenty of freebies for me watching Saturday morning mattinee, before match.
Me tooA younger version of Bert was behind that goal when Woody scored at Leicester. 1971 was the best year to be a Unitedite in Bert's lifetime.
Lmaobob That is where you now work!
