Trophy was too sweet tasting when compared to Stones.

No man has ever liked Tetleys until he reached 50 and anyone who could do a gallon of Magnet was given a wide berth.

Good Wards was nectar of the Gods. Best at the (original) Grindstone when Barry Sansby was landlord.

Me and a couple of mates had a thing about Wards. We'd get the bus into town and do a mini crawl of 3-4 puns in a cluster (eg Netherthorpe, Commonside, Crookes / Heeley / Attercliffe / Nursery St & West Bar, etc). The best I can recall, was the Devvy across the road from the brewery, with honourable mentions to the Royal Oak, Hollis Croft, the Grindstone, the Meadow Street Tavern and the Harlequin (not where the current one is).

We also rushed into the Target, Park Hill and the Domino, Broomhall on opening, but this was purely for sad list-ticking and we didn't hang about trying to befriend the locals.

Domino was “interesting” beer okay. Target was on Hyde Park. No Wards pubs on Park Hill. Two Stones two Tetleys at their peak. Scottish Queen did change to Cameron’s from Tetleys but did have draft Double Diamond for us youngsters. And Skol!

Yes. To his right i believe is Alan Whittle. Don't think he ever actually played a game for us!
Yes, he had agreed to the terms we offered him on the same day as the photo call. A few days later his contract got cancelled because he had failed the medical. He went to Orient instead.

Agree on the Trophy, always too sweet.
Tetley's - was always neither here nor there for me, good for next morning headaches tho.
Magnet - a good landlord and it was a great pint, once did more than a gallon one Christmas work do (in Albert on Sutherland Street)....needless to say as a relative light drinker, I totally lost control of myself and (according to my missus) spoilt that Christmas 🫢
Wards - Bad = smelt like fart
Good = nectar.

barrel on london road did a fantastic pint of wards in the 80s

A babycham snowball was my tipple in the taproom of the Black Bull in Aughton
Roman Ridge Scawsby where I grew up, they took whitbread out early 80s and put Darleys in (Thorne brewery). When it was good it was good but most days it was very average. They also put queen's in which was head banging stuff but not enough people drank it cos it was dearer so there was a lot of waste. There was 5 or 6 regular blades in that pub back in the day more than Donny or L***s fans that actually went to games.

Sounds so familiar. Loads of DirtyLeeds 'fans' around Dinno/Thurcroft/Maltby. None of them went and post Boxing Day 79, loads of new Wednesday scarves appeared. Wankers, the lot of them.

I played football for the Forty Foot and Ted’s Stones was the best l’ve ever tasted. There was a brewery strike or something and Darleys came in temporarily. I remember it being very good. Not had it since.

They shut Thorne brewery down when vaux bought them out, don't think they brew it anymore havnt seen it for a very long time..

Shows how rubbish the view was from the front of the standing behind the goal at OT. I remember standing there in 91/92 and just watching ankles. That said, still managed to see Agana brought down for a stonewall penalty...not given.
and lets not forget the absolute stonewall penalty on luton shelton at old trafford one of the most disgraceful refereeing decisions ive seen in 60 odd years
