What a fantastic day that was
I was watching the reserves at the Lane that day (1st team were playing at Charlton). There were gasps from the crowd when the scoreboard at the pavilion revealed that Colchester were winning 2-0 at half time

Event though this is well before my time ;), I think this picture (and the Badger one earlier) is great. It's the height of the Ball Inn ground and therefore the background that it allows - top of the world vibes! One of my nans lived on Thornborough Road and the other on Moffat Road, so know that area well.

Yeah I was brought up round there. When we were kids we used to break into the old derelict building next to the football pitch, we had no idea of the history of it back then.

I lived on Erskine Crescent as a kid. We used to climb the wall onto the ground and play on the pitch (real nets!)until the groundsman chased us off.

I saw this earlier. From an old Lincoln City programme, the incredible ramblings of their legendary manager, Colin Murphy, in which he says (without irony): “I quite often think in programme notes there is a great deal of clap trap…”View attachment 204563
First, last and only ever use of the word 'dubiety' in programme notes.

Groundsman could have been a 'Mr Vickers'. I was in the same class as his son. I thought his dad had one of the best jobs in the world.

We used to go and watch the team train during half term holidays. Sometimes we'd go down to the Lane and be told they were up at the Ball Inn. Long walk down Shoreham Street and up Myrtle Road. There was no security. Opportunity of getting autographs.

Went home and practiced what we'd seen the players do that morning.

I can't tell you the pleasure this thread gives me, but more especially my dad. These old photos of Sheffield are so moving, and capture real people doing normal day to day stuff. If there could be three threads only on this forum, it would be this one, the view from that Roygbiv does and the reports from Deadbat

That's all I need, for sure. Great stuff.

Where's Graham?
Thought that was him running back, but recon It's Brien Richardson, other three all over the place, Hodgy looksas though he's off on a training run.
Despite the negativaty an excellent Photo from the early-mid 60's.
I think the photo was the 4-2 defeat in May 1963
