Old Photos For No Reason Whatsoever

Must be 1968 when Arundel Gate was completed?
If my mum and I were catching the bus to my grandmother's in Hartley Brook Road we would go this route after getting off the bus at Pond Street station via the Arundel Square subway towards the bus stop at Bridge Street to catch either number 47 or 48 bus (can anyone the number of buses for Bellhouse Road/Sicey Avenue before it changed to number 47 and 48 in the early 1970s?)

151 and 152 from Bridge Street
Not sure which one related to which as there was Shiregreen via Bellhouse Rd and via Sicey Ave.
There was also a local service based at Firth Park which ran to Firth Park going via Bellhouse Rd and Sicey Ave,in different directions.
This local service often had Guy Arab buses in use.
As a young boy I remember most ladies used a wicker basket and the Guy Arab buses always had a judder when they set off and the shoppers often in head scarves would sit there with there wicker baskets shaking on their knees.
There was a cinema at Firth Park on the lhs of Sicey Avenue looking up the road recall going there to watch Robin Hood.

Cheers Kent. Yes 151 and 152 before it changed to 47 and 48 (probably in early 1970s).

The circular buses were number 1 and 2 (not sure if the numbers are still the same) and it went through Firth Park, Hillsborough, other areas in South West and South East of Sheffield

Must be the most depressing picture of Sheffield as it reminds me of nights in the Claymore. Scottish and Newcastle Ales. Probably the worst beer available in Sheffield at the time.

No 1 was from Parson Cross to town Firth Park,Atterciffe not a circular

Yes Silent the city had 2 circular buses running as the outer circular and the inner circular.
The outer one went on a circuit from Sheffield Lane top via Wincobank, Gleadless, Carterknowle Road across the western side to Lane Top.
Inner circular up Broadfield Rd, Nether Green across Walkley and into town again.
The one I was referring to was the Shiregreen service which ran from Firth Park to Firth Park via Bellhouse Road, Shiregreen Estate and Sicy Avenue.
Cannot recall the number but not connected with the Inner and Outer circulars.

59 and 2 was the circulars
 
59 and 2 were outer circulars and went past Abbeydale Grange
8 and 9 were inner circulars and went past Nether Edge Hospital

Anyone else remember when we had a normal easy to understand bus service, one bus colour scheme, one 2 p fare for kids, bus numbers that didn't change meaning you, your Mum and your Gran all understood where the 97 went, when there were bogs for bus drivers to nip into at strategic stops, when the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive had the cricket ground up at Norton, when the bus stops were still in the same place for years, when the driver had that weird periscope thing to look upstairs at what was occurring, when upstairs on the school bus was giving all the non smokers future secondary smoking 'issues', when there was that weird set of bus stops outside the Peace Gardens, when you knew if you wanted to go to THE LANE via London Road it was the 17, 24, 36, 75, 76 or occasionally some weird numbered bus to or from Derbyshire..

and then the Tories fecked it all up...
 

Not quite Sheffield but I have unearthed some photographs belonging to my late Grandad, they were taken around the time of the construction of the Derwent and Howden Dams, early 1900''s, and then Ladybower late 1930''s early 40''s. Anyone have any objections to me sharing them with you on this thread?
