Yeah, it's the former buffet place, not sure what it is now. All the all you can eat places seem to have gone, I miss Jumbos on the Arundel Gate, used to go there all the time when I was at Uni.

remember it well. might have been boating once or twice and remember rolling painted eggs down the hill at Easter and setting off a few rockets on bonfire night.I was born not far from Weston Park and we always used to go in there to see the polar bear, the wrestlers and the bees. We would also go into Crookes Valley Park ( which we called little Weston Park) for a walk round the lake, or, if we were lucky, twice round on the motor boat.

I did apologise!!!That jokes so old it's original draft is in the museum.
Perhaps worth making it clear for younger viewers that the polar bear was in the museum rather than the park itself...I was born not far from Weston Park and we always used to go in there to see the polar bear, the wrestlers and the bees. Does anyone remember the fat lady with the weighing chair in the old Sheffield Rag n Tag market? I've got a very distant memory of that as a child. Be really interested to see any old photo's of the Rag n Tag, and especially any of her?
I used to work in the Wap and, at night, all the heavy drinkers and druggies used to congregate at the far end ('Druggies Corner' as we used to call it). One night, one of them deposited a huge pile of puke under one of the tables. Come around 11 in the mornings and the place was transformed into a genteel place where 'ladies who shop' used to go for a pot of tea, white tablecloths, waitress service etc. I remember the day after the 'puke episode', a bunch of women shoppers were sipping their tea and nattering away. When they finished and left, I lifted up the edge of the white tablecloth where they'd been sitting and there it was - the same huge pile of vomit. Good job they didn't know as they nibbled their cucumber sandwiches! The Wap was an esoteric place!Think this is Tuckwoods store on Fargate. I can't remember this place, all I remember is Tuckwoods restaurant on Surrey Street which was a genteel sort of place with waitresses in black and white uniforms.
And Impulse just next door.Where I used to buy my music t shirts from...fucking hell,I'd forgotten about that shop!!

And this is the ceiling of the building next door. I bet hardly anybody who went into the Midland/HSBC Bank ever looked up.
What a beautiful building with some stunning architectural feature, whoever permitted that to be knocked down should be sho,and if they are dead, dug up and shot

Anyone remember which nightclub migrated to the old Gas building before it became Jumbos ?

But was it armed?I worked in the Barclays on Commercial Street which I assume replaced that one. One of my responsibilities was to cover for the security guard who used to open up in the morning. This involved searching the whole building at about 7am in the morning, unlocking all the doors (of which there seemed to be hundreds) as you went. One morning I was on the 5th floor and I could hear a banging coming from a locked room, I was convinced it must be a gang of armed robbers and I was terrified.
Turned out a pigeon had got in somehow...

I agree totally. vorpal blade is the one to comment on the architectural qualities of the building, but it's a beauty in my eyes as was the one Barclays had at the foot of the Moor.
It’s an outrage, a total outrage, I’m completely outraged.....![]()
On the top picture, the bank opposite is the Yorkshire Bank. My dad had not long been working there when United got to the Cup Final (1936). Because banks opened on Saturday mornings, and he was junior, he couldn't get the day off to go to the match. For the rest of his working life he took the first week of May as holiday, so that next time they got to the final, he would be able to go. I think you all know how that worked out...
