No idea, I'd guess the library, but looking at the angle it could be from the roof of the Lyceum.

I'm going to throw it out there, but having looked at old history books about the WW2 i'd say the big building looks like St Paul's Cathedral (now the Peace Gardens), which was badly damaged in the War and subsequently demolished.

St. Paul's (which was not a cathedral) was demolished in 1937 by the council - yes, they were tearing down Sheffield's beautiful buildings even back then - to make way for a town hall extension which didn't happen when war broke out. The church was sold by the Anglican Church because it was no longer needed, I think because of the cathedral nearby. Sad series of events all round.

Edit: I think the building you're looking at is the Bank on Fitzallen Square, another magnificent building, which someone said had been pulled down by the council (surprise) to widen the road.

Ah, put some air conditioning for The Cleveland Bridge Company' in Darlingon around 1980. Tinsley viaduct was way ahead of its time when it was built, but has it ever been free of remedial work?

Plenty of remedials who have no fucking lane sense in a morning, usually driving 1 series Beemers.

For those wondering, the Car Park is now the Crucible Theatre!

It's like the cars knew what was coming with the cars around the perimeter being the audience and the cars in the middle the actors.
