Right then. I’ve atarted a 1889-2018 Team picture. See Above. (It’s not I repeat not going to be a Sheffield United eating lunch on a metal girder looking out over Sheffield - although I might do that at some point )

Anyway. I want to add a sprinkling of historic legends. My issue is I have no clue how tall they were!

I’ve got a good idea for e.g Edwards, Hemsley, Woodward etc but the ones I’m struggling with that I’m going to add are:

Derek Pace
Graham Shaw
Jimmy Hagan
Len Badger
Alan Hodgkinson - 5’9 (I think?).
Tony Kenworthy

Do any of you happen to know ‘roughly’ how tall these guys were?

Also... I’m not intending on adding (Gil Reece, Cec Coldwell, Ernest Needham, Mick Jones or Trevor Hockey) would this be a mistake?

Any help would be appreciated.

They were all short arses except Kenworthy.

Leaving out the ones mentioned is debatable but including those instead who made their names in L1/L2 doesn't seem logical.

Kenworthy was a relative shortarse too. No more than 5-10. I have a photograph of him with me, before the days of selfies.

It makes sense to focus on players from recent times, though if you want a squad genuinely 1889-2018, it would be strange not to include Needham, Foulkes, etc. It's a good idea, and as long as you don't claim historical accuracy and we don't all get too wound up about the detail, it should be fun. Pinchy will be upset if Monty isn't included.

I'm 39 and never saw Reece or Jones place whereas I did Nuddy but I'd say that from what I can gather they are more club legends than Nuddy, even though I loved Nuddy. Trevor Hockey would also look great on the painting as he is so distinguishable and he also was very popular from what I know. From my era not yet on the painting that might not make it are Jan Aage, James Beattie, Vass Borbokis and David Holdsworth, One player also who rarely gets mentioned these days but was a hero when he was here was Mark Patterson who definitely got the club too.

It looks great though, well done!

Reece and Hockey should surely take the places of Gage and Ward. You could still have different kits.

I’m completely with ya. That’s why I asked... Bobby Davison will get in there and yet apart from ‘that night’ didn’t really do owt compared to a guy that played 500 times for us?.

Thing is (and I guess this is the decision I need to make) I either I go popularity or historical. Prime example is I’ve popped Joe Shaw on there... and although I might not have done him justice not many know who he is.

I know I should put Needham on there Just unfortunately don’t think most will recognise him. Appreciate the input tho!

Plus I’ve got a Tony Currie commission going in the club shop and while I’ve been chatting to them there has been the floating of the ‘possibility’ of a few things going in the match day programme... my Aim is to pitch/convince them that it should be the central poster in there.
