...I can feel it in my bones :)

But anyhow, elsewhere in the stir today, James Shield reckons Sunderland might listen to as little as £500k for Andy Reid. I doubt the accuracy of the article, given it's author, but if true, it's certainly got to be worth signing him up for surely?
I'd expect that Reid will have to be taking a pay cut wherever he goes, so maybe his wages won't be too much of a problem.

Maybe we could cut a deal with Sunderland that sees Nos going back?

Yep, I've seen that figure elsewhere previously. There's also rumours that we're already paying most of his wages so maybe he would be prepared to move for a cut. I'd be surprised if a lower Prem club or higher paying Chump club didn't come in for him tbh.

Guiess it depends how much money we have left over after SO'Ds compo ;)

I would think there would be plenty of interest in him at that price, so perhaps he'll be able play a few clubs off in terms off wages.

lol if we give you your own player back can we keep your other player:p

Ie; give Sunderland more than the asking price for Reid, in return for them taking Nos back and getting him off the wage bill.

I'll bet he's earning in excess of £20K per week, probably double. We shouldn't be giving him a second thought if it's anywhere near even half that figure.

Great player, but I hope the club have learned the lessons that have brought us to the position we're in.

O'Driscoll is comming the goose it getting fat. Please put a penny in mr Mc Cabes hat, if you havn't got a penny a ha'penny will do, If you havn't got ha'penny no tranfers for you.

Don't kid yourselves. Get ready for being let down. Adams will be named the new manager in the new year. Mark my words.

I only wish I shared your optimism Highbury. The news that we had been given permission to speak to Adams last night has only compounded my fears.

Right I am off to my shed (I have left my 24 pack of stones in their) to microwave my Bernard Mathews turkey burgers ....

Though most people want SOD, in the wider world I don't think everyone shares quite the same frenzy with regards the desperation for it to be either O'Driscoll or nothing.

Micky Adams will do me fine. If O'Driscoll doesn't want to come then we don't want him, though you can almost feel the glee at the prospect as the usual suspects get their ducks lines up for free.

typical Sheffielder with a lack of ambition. I'll bet that you weren't upset today when you go a Nintendo 64, but you really wanted a PS2. 2nd best .... ah, It'll be reit.

Ah well, guess I should resign myself to more hoof for the forseeable future. Sheffield United FC: passionate, hard to beat, direct. Another 3, 4 or 5 season of being dirty, kick and rush merchants. Merry Fookin Crimbo Blades :(

Cheer up Olli ............ i'll send our gert round !

One thing is for certain no one man will change United whoever it is ! .......... the whole ethos at BDTBL needs changing.

(

Zelda, Goldeneye, Mario 64 i wouldn't have been too cheesed off with an N64.

This kid wasn't :D

Edit : Besides which, PS2 competed with a gamecube not the N64. You're thinking of a PS1.

According to the Port Vale fans Adams is not a hoof merchant he has Vale playing attractive football. He is certainly doing the business for Vale this season.
adams would certainly bring some passion back to the Lane.
Interviews start this week so lets wait and see.

Nice try so I'll have a go as it's what you want and it's Christmas....:D

It's not about lack of ambition. IF the reports are correct, then HE'S turned US down. There's no ambition to lack here. You're welcome to start the 150th chapter of "Why I hate Sheffield United and will grab as much attention as possible whilst rejoicing in it" (catchy title...:)) if you want - I'll be happy to see the bright side in the best manager that WANTS to come to us.

Well if thats what it says in the papers you read for match reports.
On the other hand you may wish to attend the games and decide for yourself as being an 'I was there' eyewitness. Then you may decide to leave the brand of football played at BDTBL.
Astonished that you decide to judge a manager befor even appointed.

i hope we get O'Driscoll but as usually united go for cheap option and carver will become full time manager :/

I'll bite...how do you define 'cheap option' and when did we last do down that road. Robson(big wages and transfer/wages budget)Blackwell(big wages-although less than Robson -big transfer/wages budget),Speed(big wages) ?

Where is the 'as usual' bit you are going on about ?

By all means question the decision making of the Board...but the decisions haven't been cheap

I would be happy with Adams and in my opinion many fans would. Experience in all divisions, can play football on the deck or go direct, knows the lower divisions to pick up a bargain and has got clubs promoted. Please don't assume because it is not the appointment you want,it won't be the correct appointment.
If we don't get SOD,who do you want to get the job?

Blackwell and Speed wouldn't have been on a high wage, epically Speed he was a cheap option, not like he proven him self as a manager.

Agree re Speed not having proved himself as a manager but we were paying him more than Wales are now paying him to manage the national team...certainly not cheap.

Only a guess but I would have thought Blackwell would have been on larger wages than Speed due to his experience.

How would you define a 'high wage' ? SOD and co will be on less money than Blackwell and Speed therefore any manager taken on now will be a 'cheap option' according to your logic.

What makes SOD the right choice?...only promoted twice in 10 years, not managed a club where the pressure for success is constant,...all because his teams pass the ball on the floor doesn't mean he will be a sucess(although the last two seasons at BDTBL it has been Donny who played hoofball.

Speed and Blackwell would have been on a low wage compared to other championship managers to be fair tho

Apart from the clubs who have come down from the Premier League,I reckon we would have been in the top 5 of what managers are paid.

Trouble is we cannot prove it but the only teams I can think of who I reckon would be paying their managers more than Speed this season would be premier relegated clubs,Cardiff,Forest,Leicester and QPR and Middlesborough

Not a cat in hells chance. Just because "the cheap option" is repeated frequently, doesn't make it so. We can be criticised for loads of crap decisions over the last few years. Doing it on the cheap isn't one of them.

We were paying Speed around £250,000 a year. Hardly peanuts. I'd love to know how many other Championship clubs pay more than this.

kin ell this site turns more like the old bladesunited board every day. You moaning, childish, 'points scoring' farts.

Who really knows how SOD would perform at united? Who predicted how Holloway would perform at Blackpool after his Leicester debacle? Football is not black and white.

My gut feeling is i would prefer SOD to Adams, but hey, just like you lot im just a punter whos hobby is following the blades (although i do wonder about this statement applying to some people on here).

I bet the same people who are crying because SODs appointment is looking increasingly unlikely, are the same ones who were rejoicing when Blackwell was sacked and Speed put in charge. Well that knee jerk reaction really got us far didnt it! The Welsh FA handed us a 'get out of jail free' card taking Speed off our hands.

If Adams gets the job i will be shouting, cheering and encouraging him on. Lets just see how it goes.

Catchy title, but hardly fitting. I love Sheffield United and that is why I am in constant agony when the club is run so badly. Even with my lack of commercial skills (as Dunc kindly pointed out) it is easy for me to see time and time again that United are fucking things up. I'm sorry alco, but I am not into blind faith. If I thinking Sheffield United have got it wrong, then I will say it. Interesting idea though. Writing a book I mean. I could chronicle all the things United have done wrong in recent history and it would certainly have more than 150 chapters :D

Ha ha. CC baby, have you really any idea of how many games I have been to? Plus I have had an important task to do, i.e. building my shed. It has been worth missing a few games (and relying on second hand opinions to make my judgements) to get my shed up. Have you seen the photos? She is a real beauty.

Ooooff. Few too many cherries yesterday and a sore head this morning Casper? If you can't handle debate then maybe you should go to the North Korean section of the forum which has banned myslef, Micalijo and Lenners.

Maybe I should opt this blind faith stance that so many on here do. Just clap no matter what happens. Put my full faith behind the board and that's that. It would save me a lot of time debating with the 'clappers'. Ah fuck it, I'll clap til my hands bleed no matter who gets the job

.......Ah fuck it, I'll clap til my hands bleed no matter who gets the job
Alternatively you could try not panicking at the moment because there's not been a permanent manager appointed. I've got the same influence over the board as you in the matter, and that's none. Even lenners can't influence them on matters managerial, although that might be due to him leaping in a fast jet and heading in the opposite direction to whichever one McCabe is approaching or might be due to McCabe actually not consulting him.

I'm not sure if O'Driscoll is the ideal man for the job or not. I've not seen enough of Donny and have never met the bloke, so I don't know. Similarly with Micky Adams - I've not seen enough of his sides, although I'm a little more familiar with them than I am O'Driscoll's. I know that Adams has in the past gone for a more "robust" style but has that in part been down to his having managed in more "robust" divisions? Again, I don't know, I've never asked him.

Maybe, just maybe, the United board that will be interviewing for the vacant post want to see several candidates, even those from lower divisions and those with less experience than others, just to get a broader picture? Again, I don't know that either. I don't claim to be in the know, or have information from a friend of a friend of a friend of an auntie of an ex-player.

I don't want Adams. To be Bassett's assistant once might be unfortunate: to do it twice sounds like HOOF. I can, however, just about understand why he is a candidate.

Can anyone explain why on earth Andy Scott is in contention?

Oh please tell us o great enlightened one, how many games have you been to see this season involving the Blades - not on tele, with your self actually being there?
Shit maybe I've just started one of those elusive games you like to play. Go on suprise me with a simple answer that actually answers what i have asked without the runaround you dearly love.
