Just read on BBC Rumours page that this morning's Daily Mirror (9/12) is reporting Speed is now joint favourite with Chris Coleman to become next Wales manager.

Surely this would be a rather strange appointment?

Speed goes to wales, Chris Hughton joins us. i'd be happy with that.

Odds have been slashed though. Would be an interesting one. I think though that Speed is a sensible bloke, I think he'll realise it's too early for him. But I don't doubt that one day he will manage Wales.

Whatever happens, let's just hope he isn't allowed to do it part-time.

I would seriously lose respect for the bloke if he wanted to do that

Speed won't be going anywhere, there is no way the club will allow him to go. The future has already been planned out and he is firmly in the centre of it.

SPEED on his way !

Odds cut on him getting Welsh job !

oopssss............ just seen thread on Blades board..can yer move Linz/Foxy?

Based on Speed’s managerial and coaching record, who would seriously shed a tear if he was to take the Wales job and if so why?
If Speed went to Wales we could get a large compensation payment and it would free us being tied in to his stupidly long 3 year contract.
We could then properly advertise the position in the hope and expectation of attracting an experienced manager with a proven track record of success on a budget.
Get the new manager in place before the transfer window opens and give him a full month to wheel and deal and rebuild the squad with a fresh viewpoint.
Yes, we could let Speed rebuild the squad but with a managerial success rate currently on a par with Steve Thompson and Billy McEwan it would be a massive gamble.
Allowing him to go to Wales would be a no-lose situation for all parties.

Or we could go down rhe route of appointing a very experienced manager like Pardew - no thanks I'll risk running with Speedo
It's not the manager that's the problems it's the clowns running the club McCabe, Birch et al!

Fiery, what do you feel Birch has done wrong in his few months in charge?

The only thing I can think of it not sacking Blackwell in the summer.
When he came in the wage bill had to be cut, which he has done effectively. He has appointed Pemberton which has seen huge improvements to the academy results.

What has he done that you take issue with?

Bob, surely you've realised by now not to believe what you're being fed?
As for Birch, he's lost 5,000 season ticket holders on his watch with a complete failure to understand the mood of the fans and adopt any kind of sensible marketing approach (or any marketing approach at all) and has said virtually nothing at all publicly about what is going on at SUFC.
He's firmly at the centre of the complete lack of leadership and direction at SUFC.

Whilst not one ITK I understood it was Birch that gave Blackwell his reprieve in the summer then capitulated two matches into this season !
He has also been trotting out garbage regarding future investment In October investment was around 6 weeks away - come and gone no more to report!
He for me was there to provide a figure head due to McCabe ducking and diving in Belgium
Birch has provided no leadership to a rookie manager, starved of funds, barely a squad to speak about and the club in turmoil
Sorry, FB if Birch is the Supremo everyone has built him up to be then either McCabe is keeping him on a very short lead or he's a phoney!

remember the owd chestnut ?

we tried to keep him ....................... BUT

One FA Cup Final, two promotions and two other play-off final appearances. Yes, someone with a proven track record like Pardew would be ideal thanks.

your taking the absolute piss, what is speed ment to do with one of the worst squads in the league which is all down to Blackwell and Birch.
Even Mourinho couldnt sort this squad.
Barnsley must be laughing at us got rid of two shite players in Boggy and Kozzy and replaced them with much better. Were ment to be the bigger club.
Going on McCabes statement the other week though I would say were officially Bolloxed.
Only Pig Fans would want Speed to leave now.

If Speed walks, I hope he tells us exactly why he has left and also lets us know the real obligation the powers that be at the club expect of this clubs "Ambitions"

I'm not best placed to comment(no, it doesn't ususally stop me, I know...) but can anyone say after 20 matches in charge we've improved any? Cut out the defensive howlers? Got more creative? More incisive?

Fully take the point he's been lumbered with some cark, but he's not going to get anything else to work with is he?

No doubt he'll make a good manager in time and indeed if we were just mid-table trundlers it wouldn't even be an issue, but if he did fancy Wales - and it's down to him, I'm not advocating punting him - I wouldn't be overly upset.

I would say you've got to give him at least a transfer window to sort the problems out, but the liklehood is that we'll not see much comings or goings in January

Andy Reid is a good example of why we should keep Speed. I'd be amazed if Wales wanted him so early into his managerial career.

I repeat, what has Speed done to inspire such loyalty? Is it the 15 goals we’ve scored in 17 matches? Or the 21 points in 17 matches? Or 20th place in the league? Or limited funds being wasted on bringing in Calve, Wright, Parrino and Batth to warm the bench? Or the failure to generate his own funds by moving a single player out on loan? Or saying his top priority is a pacy attacker and then failing to sign one? Or the dreadful disciplinary record and his support for referees who’ve made terrible decisions against us? Or the Brazilian-style attacking football we’ve been playing?

If Wales take Speed off us, they will have to pay us compensation. This would allow us to bring in an experienced, proven manager who we know (rather than just hope against hope) has the credentials to keep us in this division. If we force Speed to stay with us and it turns out he's not actually a great manager after all, we would have to pay him hefty compensation to leave. This could be our very last chance to part company on amicable terms and make a profit into the bargain. Why specifically, do you think Speed is the best possible manager for us at this time?

Great tweet from Seth about this:

In the office lots going on, but nothing happening if that makes any sense. Off to see Gary speed, the welsh (cont) http://tl.gd/7d6jgh

Didn't think he was that nasty, Seth!

Jeez, what has Speed done to get everyone so upset. He became manager after the window shut, he has no money to spend and he has tried to change our style of play. Whether he is the right man for the job or not I really think that he has done his best. He is an honest guy, doesn't give us all the excuses under the sun and will given time change our image with the media. If he had money to spend I believe that he would attract some good players to the club.

Never understand why any manager would want the national job unless they are about 60 years old and want a more relaxed job. National coaches get 6 games a year and see their players for about 4 weeks. It must be incredibly boring and I would be really surprised if GS said yes to Wales

And Robbie Savage has given it his all-important backing.

I hope it isn't the case.
