Twelve Manchester United supporters have been handed football banning orders following disorder before an FA Cup fixture.

More than 100 fans were involved in city centre violence ahead of Manchester United's game against Sheffield United on 9 January 2016.

Bottles were thrown at officers amid the scuffles, but no-one was injured, Greater Manchester Police said.

Those taken to court were banned from games for three to five years.

The disorder began when a group of around 80 Sheffield United fans came face-to-face with about 40 Manchester United supporters after leaving a pub.

Were these Manyoo fans all on crutches/ in wheelcahirs or something and why were they the only ones arrested?

It's strange that only manure fans got locked up if it all kicked off.

And even stranger that most of them came from Manchester rather than Surrey.

In related news I heard a rumour that a Blade decked Tango after the Walsall game. Doubt if that is true as it would have been all over Oinktalk.

The Blades fans were kettled and just led away if I recall correctly.

Nobody actually got locked up. No charges were brought, they just received banning orders. That probably explains why only ManUre fans were taken to court - the local plod will only have been interested in fans that they might encounter again. But 80 Blades vs 40 Mancs might also be relevant, as police attention would have focused on the minority rather than the majority.

I wonder what The Sheffield Stir will make up when they cover the story in a few days time ;)
