Looking at the table below it is even more remarkable the position we are in. Without a doubt Wilder and Knill have the best coaching skills in the championship.

I am pleased to see Wilder (who may have learned from the QPR game) has been using 16 players a game, and getting contributions out of lots of different players without any discernible drop off in form due to those changes (save perhaps for the twin defeats). Doing a fine job.

I suspect that there were too many players for the QPR game that weren't ready and up to speed

Definitely a lesson learned from last year was the fact that benches make a huge difference in the modern more physical game often lasting 100 minutes. Quite often we were in the game/semi-competitive until the hour mark when the opposition could bring on fresh legs that would comfortably make our XI, whilst we had naff all.

Glad that we can apply the same tactics to our benefit this season.

Had someone told in July that we will have an objectively strong bench by Championship standard, it probably would have been laughed off. But our depth is really solid. In part thanks to the depth signings that have worked out quite OK and in part to some youngsters surprisingly stepping up. We have had players miss the bench – not due to an injury – who would start in at least 50% of Championship teams.

However, not to be too optimistic. If we go up again, the problem is back to haunt us. As many of those players are not the ones we would like to put onto the pitch in the PL. Unless some youngsters manage to up their level again.

I believe quite a few of our academy players will be PL players. Let's hope with us.
