In a recent interview when discussing the arrivals and departures from the club , CW made the comment that whilst we needed bodies in to counteract the the great number who have left , he did not want to finish up with a bloated squad .

I believe this is a wise approach for a number of reasons , but it also got me thinking about size of squads we have had in the past and how many different players have played for us in a single season .

I have a vague recollection that in one of our seasons under Dave Basset the number was very high , but I would much appreciate the definitive answer to this question and I have little doubt that one of our highly esteemed experts in such matters will be able to provide it.

Might be wrong but I seem to remember this coming up before and it was the 2010-11 relegation season.

But with the rule changes now allowing more substitutes to be used and named on the bench it might be a more recent season.

I'm sure the 2004/05 season under Warnock featured a stupid number of players making an appearance.

We used 40 in 2010-11 and 39 in 2013-4. Those are the top 3.
