4 weeks ago I would have agreed with you. Now I think I can see what we are about. I'd stick with the side as is, and gradually replace one at a time.So we're out of the cup, not unexpected when you pitch a third div side against a Premier League team, even an under performing one. We've had the obligatory tweet from Phipps of pride in the lads, gaffer and fans. But ultimately, like another thread states, it has ended in failure. This season was never going to be about success after a summers failure to build a team to challenge.
So now is the chance, we've given many of these players their moment, they've done themselves proud in front of 9,000 away fans and a big crowd at Old Trafford, but lets break it up.
Too many players fail to perform week in week out, its taken many of them half a season to get fit or look interested, the rest haven't even managed that. McEveley has been awful this season and got his moment today, but young Kieran Wallace, has been banished beyond the bench.
Its time for the board to wield the axe on the likes of McEveley and bring through the Wallace's (Not James, he's fooked)
Act now United, build a side between now and the summer and start strong next season
I don't want to be betting that much, but clear up what it is we're betting on, winning the play offs?of course we are

If we could replace Collins and Sammon in this transfer window I actually think we'd have a chance. I don't think we will make those changes though.

PS McEveley has been good for about the last 6 games now.
Wow. You really don't like him do you.
It has to be Collins first. The number of times J Mc digs him out is uncountable.
Betcha. I look forward to your post following the 3 -0 loss to a very powerful and athletic Wigan side.
100% agree mate.
We did better 2 years ago with most of the players in this team in the cups under Cloygh and we are still here in L1.............
90% of these players are just not upto the job of winning promotion from this league. They just can not handle the pressure. simple as that.
Its more because they think they should be playing at Old Trafford every week, instead they have to play wigan away on a wet tuesday in January. It's not the pressure they can't handle as they can perform in the cups. These players are just very inconsistent and that is why they are playing in the 1st division. It is why you have to pay the money to get some quality here.

thats the thing , if we hit a consistant run of wins now it will put us in with a chance, it is possible to
a team can change from good to bad and bad to good over a season
weve been inconsistant but a run of 8 wins on the trot which weve done before can change perceptions and belief
but
we have to do it of first of course
but theres no reason it cant be us that can find some form , but I admit we need 2 or 3 fresh faces to enable it
I think your dummy is out at the moment mateBut isn't this the major issue at the club? Too many players given clean slates because of a few decent (less shit games). Its funny how a number of these performers started playing well after we drew Man U in the Cup.
Act now and make a statement to the remaining players that we don't accept failure....
I think your dummy is out at the moment mate
It's obvious that we've changed the way we play. And it obviously suits the players we have. It's obvious to me that is responsible for a pick up in performance.
To suggest it's because the players wanted to play a ManUre is the type of thing we are all guilty if believing when we are pissed off and emotion has taken over our thinking.

i think Swiss is (correctly in my opinion) suggested that some of them are a bunch of big time charlies who can deal with being the underdog at OT but not as the favourites at BDTBL.. therefore they potentially have the ability but don't have the balls.I think your dummy is out at the moment mate

I'd bin a lot of players, don't get me wrong. But most of the players on that field were not responsible for us being in this division for 5 yeas.To be honest, i don't have a lot of emotion towards United at the moment, its a case of going through the motions this season and whilst i did have hopes for the cup, i never expected this side to go 90 mins at Old Trafford without conceding, i did think we could possibly nick a goal though, but not to win the game.
I quite happily accept we were on a mini run in December and that certain players have played above themselves too. However, i can't comment too much from that mini run as i only saw the Coventry game (so i'm quite careful of picking out individual performances in this time). However, having watched most of these players for the last couple of seasons and many of the new players this season, its been the most disappointing in terms of tactics, fitness and general togetherness. This is the least United side i've seen for a while
Yes the style of play has changed, but it also had to. We were winning virtually nothing, conceding bucket loads and even the goals had dried up. In some ways we have gone back to basics (something which had to happen in september, not november) to stop conceding and it has been effective in some cases. That said though, the simple truth is that these players are not a defensive unit unless they are 100% focussed 100% of the game. They don't have the additional attributes such as pace, ability to read the game or the nifty footwork to recover from their mistakes.
So whilst I'm almost resigned to another year in this division, yes, the dummy is out, the toys are out of the pram and this is exactly what is needed to start the clear out.
Lets not forget we've been in this division for 5+ years. We can't just forget that certain players have been mostly diabolical or at least recently diabolical, because they've played half a dozen ok games in a month.
what evidence has there ever been before a run , thats the point , teams just click and get a run goingWhat evidence of such dramatic changes suggests that we will go on this run of 8 wins? Commitment and desire when it suits?
There'll be some other excuse next year that'll make posters say similar about the following year.
And so the process will continue, round in circles.
