So we're out of the cup, not unexpected when you pitch a third div side against a Premier League team, even an under performing one. We've had the obligatory tweet from Phipps of pride in the lads, gaffer and fans. But ultimately, like another thread states, it has ended in failure. This season was never going to be about success after a summers failure to build a team to challenge.

So now is the chance, we've given many of these players their moment, they've done themselves proud in front of 9,000 away fans and a big crowd at Old Trafford, but lets break it up.

Too many players fail to perform week in week out, its taken many of them half a season to get fit or look interested, the rest haven't even managed that. McEveley has been awful this season and got his moment today, but young Kieran Wallace, has been banished beyond the bench.

Its time for the board to wield the axe on the likes of McEveley and bring through the Wallace's (Not James, he's fooked)

Act now United, build a side between now and the summer and start strong next season

I agree with what you say, but it's a bit soon to be slagging them off after that performance isn't it? At least leave it until next week!

I think now is exactly the time to slag them off, shit all season, except turned it on for a couple of weeks since the cup draw?

Its time that the axe was sharpened and they're no longer allowed to hide behind one good performance.

Couldn't agree more, the lads have shown they can do it, so we aren't they doing it in the league? the same happened under Clough, we were mediocre in the league but fantastic in one off games in the cup, I don't buy we suit the underdog tag. The players need to play better in the league, and if they can't handle the pressure of being 'favourites' we need to bring in players who can

I hereby declare that the tide has finally turned. That display has brought a lot of self belief. Playoffs this year and if unsuccessful, autos next. In NHA I trust.

Oh, and Man Utd can fuck right off :mad::mad:

Play offs looking increasingly unlikely as each week goes by imo

We need to go on a great run, something that we have been incapable of doing virtually from day 1. At the moment, I just don't see it

8 points off 5th (and if we lose to them Tuesday that's 11). 14 off 2nd. We are just too inconsistent to get up there, especially as most of those above us are showing decent form

Betcha. I look forward to your post following the 3 -0 loss to a very powerful and athletic Wigan side.

Wow. You really don't like him do you.
It has to be Collins first. The number of times J Mc digs him out is uncountable.

The form picked up when we changed the system and tried to become more solid. It's not like we've been poor all season and then went and played Man Utd off the park and won 3-0 or anything. I just think they deserve some credit for how organised we were at the back.

I'll be back to slating them next week anyway :D

we defended valiantly
but were non existant as a threat
got to get the ball from the back to the front better ie a midfield ball player
if man utd got 1 chance was always going to be enough as we never threatened, I wouldnt normally complain against a prem side , but they were worse than villa and Fulham were and they were both poor
Connor Sammon won 2 maybe 3 headers but his control was abysmal and Sharp was too easily bundled off the ball , not that the service was up to much
We do need some players maybe 3
we will make the play offs , but could still snatch 2nd with a couple of good additions

Fair assessment that, but I don't think the play offs are within reach this season sadly.

I've resigned myself to a disastrous 6th term in this God foresaken division, but still feel NA is the right man for the job

its still do able , if we get the right players 22 games is still a long haul
bournemouth made it from a similar position
until its impossible we go for it

In today's game we were the underdogs and we concentrated on not getting beaten, much like the L1 opposition does most games at Bramall Lane. Getting 10 men behind the ball and defenders not selling themselves in the tackle is hard even for Man Utd, Barcelona, Real Madrid or anybody to play against; there's no space when 10 men fill the front of the penalty area. Lesser footballers can do that side of the game much easier than other skills and once past the first 20 minutes confidence grows with the underdogs and frustration develops in the better team.

It happens in our Home games a lot but in amongst it all we manage to concede goals that the opposition have only made a token effort to get. Somehow the conceded goals just seem to happen even when the opposition play with only occasional attacks with just a couple of forwards. I've never understood it and I'm sure our manager must pull his hair out. Once the game has turned though the opposition start to strut their stuff and we get more and more ragged.

In truth the Mancs were never in danger of conceding against us today. We don't have those sort of players who can break with pace and suddenly open up situations, even though they are only really just giving it a go without any real expectations.

It is, but we won't imo

We are too inconsistent. We have some good players and I believe we have a good manager, but I can't remember the last time I saw a whole squad anywhere that lacks genuine pace like our squad does.

The pace is there but its usually on the bench.

thats the thing , if we hit a consistant run of wins now it will put us in with a chance, it is possible to
a team can change from good to bad and bad to good over a season
weve been inconsistant but a run of 8 wins on the trot which weve done before can change perceptions and belief
but
we have to do it of first of course
but theres no reason it cant be us that can find some form , but I admit we need 2 or 3 fresh faces to enable it

hope your right of course, but don't see it

Personally I'd wait till the summer to do any business. Any transfer fee's in January are generally less favourable to the buyer and the amount of incomings we'd be able to get in now with the squad as big as it is wouldn't be able to make much of an effect on the team in any case. Best to wait and carry things out properly. As far as this season goes, we've blown it already in the way of transfers. Such a shame.

Adkins is the right man but this season the very best we can hope for is 5th or 6th and we won't win the play offs, we have too many weaknesses.

so next summer there are no excuses, transfer targets identified and signed by early June for a full pre season, hit the ground running, and serious questions to be asked if we are not top two by this time next year.

There'll be some other excuse next year that'll make posters say similar about the following year.

And so the process will continue, round in circles.

blown what
we are 8th not 18th
one year we will thats will win a play off
if we finish 6th 28 points behind walsall we can still go up

Id take that

We won't win the play offs with this squad, we would need four quality signings and those cant come in until we get the wage bill down, we should, SHOULD, be able to do that in the summer, we can't in January.

why wont we
some really shit sides have won play offs

some teams have scraped into the top 6 then rode their luck to win 2 games
we can do that we are due
