We’re safe...draws aren’t really much good to us...how about we bring back the No 10 or “Duffy role” for Newcastle and Norwich?
Freeman or maybe even McG given license to roam and make stuff happen.

So who do we drop then, Berge or Fleck? Baring in mind it would mean fleck would be sitting also.

Keep playing the way we’ve had success and make Europe or even the champions league...

Or risk something that we moved away from this season...

I completely agree, it will give us a good opportunity to test it out in the league In the knowledge we’re staying up, or at least play it in the first half.

There’s not much risk as we’re safe, so surely this is the time to experiment with tweaks to the system to prevent us becoming reliant on one set up.
I think the flat three works well when we’re playing the teams who come out to play us, but I think we need a plan B against teams who sit back (Newcastle at home being a prime example). Against these teams we need a player in the team who will move defensive players out of position and create spaces.
I also think we need to learn how to deal with teams who pin our wingbacks back, as when we lose the attacking width, we tend to struggle.
We’ll never have a better time to try out options.

We don’t really have to drop anyone as I think Fleck has looked a real attacking threat when given license to roam himself. So Norwood and Berge could sit to free him up.
I don’t believe Berge has to play every game either, so he could drop to the bench for a couple.
Wilder must have toyed with the idea of playing a Duffy-type when he signed Freeman.
I do like the flat 3 against teams who attack us because it works in favour of our fitness levels and the new box-to-box version of Lunny. However, I also think this system looks less effective against teams who sit back and we could do with a little more creativity in the final third

We usually don't have enough possession to warrant reverting to last season's system. In any case, it would badly expose Norwood at this level.

I do think we could go to it during games though. Yesterday we could have sacrificed Berge and gone to it. At home to Newcastle also.

Its an option we should have used during the games at Home especially against teams who sit deep like Brighton. We only seem to have used it this season when we are behind yesterday would have been the perfect opportunity for Mcg to come on with Mousset and Mcb/Sharp in front of him. This has to be our plan B against teams like this.

If all you want from this season is to be safe then perhaps you’ve missed the league table

We’re 7th. 4pts off 4th and had an absolutely brilliant season until now.

Saturday was one of of our best performances and we dominated a side because of the way we play.

11 games to go and probably the best chance we’ll ever have of making the champions league... yes champions league... and you want us to piss about with a number 10 when we’ve not played with one all season

I don’t want Us to piss about I want us to push on.

When there is nothing left to play for i.e. in the unlikely event of the last game of the season being mathematically impossible for us to move a place up or down in the league (bare in mind each place is worth £2m), i would like to see us try out either this formation with Fleck in at CAM... or a Fleck/Berge/Lunny flat 3 and try Berge in the Norwood role

No, I want us to adopt a more adventurous and attacking style of play so we can convert draws (like Saturday) into wins and have a real push at the European places.
You assume that any deviation from the current system will result in failure, whereas I’m of the opinion that we could successfully employ a system similar to the one that got us promoted against the weaker sides in the Prem.
Believe me, I want us to push on and I want us to secure Europe because we may never get a better opportunity.

Oh ok. You’re initially posts seemed to be quite blasé about how we finish the last quarter of the season as you were talking of trialling a return to championship tactics (minus the players to do it) because we are safe

Personally I don’t think that yesterday we were too far off and it was a cracking performance

Which makes it seem all the more bizarre at the business end of the season to then start messing around with something we haven’t tried since last season

Fair enough, I was posing it as more of a question to be honest to gauge other fans’ opinions...and yours was a No!
I personally would start with the current system and switch after 60mins if we’re still level/behind. My preferred subs would be McG and Mousset on for Berge and Sharp with Didz playing behind the front two.
I definitely wouldn’t play a no10 from the start against the “better teams” as our amazing defensive record is a testament to how we’ve defended as a team and shown great positional discipline and a willingness to put in the hard graft. I just think we could do a little more to open up the other teams.
Saturday was a good performance but we were just a little short of securing the win.
I know I’m being incredibly greedy given our recent rate of progress, but I will actually be disappointed if we don’t secure at least a Europa place from our current position...I suspect Wilder has his sights set on one as well as the man’s ambition shows no limits.

I think you make a valid point that with hindsight this could've been a useful plan B at the very least for games like yesterday. My worry now would be that without Duffy to take up that position, we'd be learning it afresh at a time where we're unlikely to take any undue risks.

I know people have differing opinions about what Duffy had left in the tank, but it would've been nice to see what he could've brought to the last 30 minutes of a tight game like yesterday. Because we've largely stuck to the same team, you'd think it would've been an almost seamless transition to bring Duff on to work those magic triangles and squeeze a breakthrough 😭

We create plenty without a 10.

Putting them away is the issue.
Do we create many clear cut chances ? Or are they mainly half chances. We need a goalscoring number 10 and I would be amazed if Wilder doesnt know this

I was surprised that Mousset got stripped and then didn’t come on. We were crying out for speed and control on the floor against their giant back line.

Captain Morgans weekly Norwood bitch alert.
I say bring back Chris Hussey ,that will show the fuckers.

He was very good yesterday in fairness. After Fleck I had him down as our next best player on the park. You're very sensitive about my opinions on Norwood, but I do genuinely rate him. I just think, if we want to progress as a club with a midfield 3, then we will need better than him in the middle.

Norwood may even still have a big future with us moving forwards, but it would only be if we change formations in my opinion.

I've got to the point where I no longer really think about our formations, tactics etc - I just believe Wilder will get it so much better than I could even dream of, I may as well save my energy for something else.

Wilder has stated time and again that it’s always about the next 3 points.

I think we can always be open to playing different ways against different opposition. Is that likely to include playing a number 10 this season? I don’t see it on the evidence of the last 27 games. I don’t see we need to adopt a different approach. But wilder has different options during games and as games go on, we’ve seen him tweak the system to get the best out of the side. We don’t just have a plan A and B anymore, we have multiple ways to play within our systems

It was interesting to see Mousse stripped to come on the other day but then he was quickly changed for McG

I think the solution to that problem is a 40/50m proven PL goalscorer. Maybe in summer.
