Not the play offs please.

Our record in the Play Offs - seven attempts, no wins.

1988 – Lost to Bristol City in Semi Final
1997 – Lost to Palace at Wembley
1998 – Lost to Sunderland in Semi Final
2003 - Lost to Wolves at Millenium Stadium
2009 – Lost to Burnley at Wembley
2012 – Lost to Huddersfield at Wembley
2013 – Lost to Yeovil in Semi Final
2015 – Lost to Swindon in Semi Final

EDIT - though it has to be said that Preston managed to finally win one after losing a similar number to us

If it’s playoffs so be it but god I don’t want the pigs to be there because a defeat to them would leave me suicidal

BC - Bassett admitted he tried to change things too quickly and he had only joined us because we were already crap.

Palace - touch unlucky, Kendall a bit too defensive,

Sunderland- shitshow 1. Tommo and Slade in charge, limped into the playoffs after almost losing a huge point advantage we had over 7th (Brum?).

Wolves - weird one. The one where I thought we were nailed on. We were slow to start, Ince and Irwin played like they were still Man U players.

Burnley - shitshow 2. Big bottling baby in charge, Craig Fucking Beattie up front, topped off by twattery from Ward.

Huddersfield - shitshow 3. Yet again weak up front (strikers cost money) and walking wounded as our squad was thinner than a blue Rizla.

Yeovil - shitshow 4. Do I even need to go there? Absolute nonsense season all round.

Swindon - shitshow 5. That said, might have been ok if Brayford hadn’t been crocked in the first leg and we had to switch Bash to defence. Still bollocks though.

I’d be more confident going into these than I have been since 2003. We’ve got a decent squad and we’d have to pick up several bad injuries to derail us this time. I’m not saying we’ll win but I’d expect us to at least turn up this time, play some football and get stuck in.

I honestly wouldn't fear the playoffs this time. Who wouldn't fancy a win against Brizzle/Derby/Forest in the semi and potentially Boro in the final? A rejuvenated WBA would be the biggest danger but there's no guarantee they'll improve.

Screw this caper, I'll be disappointed if we aren't champions, it's only Leeds and what's the other team? Northwich Victoria?

The play offs are unfair on the third placed team IMO
They hit a disappointed club and set of players immediately whilst the Jonny come lately who scrapes into the top six is full of confidence.

The fifth and six clubs should play over two legs to see who is going to play the fourth place club over one leg.
The fourth place club is always at home
The third place club is always in the final

The fairest way would always be to promote third place.

The only reason I like having them around is what they do for the competition as a whole. You've got Brentford last night who felt like they were on a potential play-off push a game later sitting in 14th place. You'd have so many games that didn't matter without play-offs.

I like the suggestion for altering the format but you're never going to get them sacrifice the big Sky games.

Matt Done had a perfectly good goal ruled out in the first leg if I remember.

Come to think of it, we've had some shitty luck in quite a few Play Off games. Hopkin's screamer for Palace after we were the better side. We shaded it v Hudders too but of course lost on penalties. We're due a bit of luck.

I said on another thread that I'd want to avoid Brentford - and the pigs of course.

Taking the emotion out of it, surely they're the worst side in with a chance of making it and therefore the best opponents we could hope to face?

Penalties would be nervewracking after 0-0 on aggregate. Or do 0-0 wins count double?

I can still remember Hopkins getting the ball and thinking ‘no one’s closing him down’ (I was right at the front, almost dead centre, with him and our goal to my left) and then ‘he’s shaping to shoot, oh FFS’.

I got that bit right. But then on the way home I said to my mates ‘be reight, we'll go up next season’.

Fjortoft has been damning of the preparation for the Palace game.
Given Kendall’s reputation and how he turned us around quite quickly that surprises me a little.

Given our actual performance that day, it doesn’t.

I’ve said very similar before 5 against 6 one game. 4vs 5 2 legs and then 3rd in the final. All games played within 7-10 days so the 3 rd team is fresher without going off the boil

If ever we're going to win the play-offs it would be with these players and this management team. We would be the best team whoever we play, that hasn't always been the case. We have a manager who doesn't chop and change tactics and play 'try not to lose' football. My only fear would be that if we don't make top 2 there would be initial disappointment around the squad and we'd potentially be up against a team who finished 6 on a high and on a roll.

There's still plenty of twists and turns before all that nonsense though, starting with tonight and a small game on Satdi, let's just see how it pans out.............
Let’s hope that team that finishes 6th isn’t the Pigs
