I think that the new tv deal has come in since then so revenues resulting from 1 season in the premier league will be up around £200m. Lazy but it’s a nice round figure to demonstrate a point

Add on a further £10-20m for increased gates, commercial revenue etc and then £40m (IIRC) for one year's parachute payment. This gives around £150m.

£20m for an unproven striker in the Premier League is indeed crazy money. It looks like we're paying anywhere between £17-20m, if the media are to be believed.

However, as was pointed out elsewhere, for a side earning £200m for just going up and playing one season in the Premier League, it represents 10% of the earnings. With the McBurnie deal, we'll have spent less than 25% of the revenue earned on Transfer fees.

Crazy money and unbelievable to think that last season this was our entire salary budget for a season and in league one the 500k we spent on Billy Sharp was a big fee to pay... We've come a long way in 4 years.

Of course the SPL is a two team league. (Celtic and Kilmarnock), but that is true about every top league in Europe, with the premier league as an exception. I'd say English football has a regular 6 team league.

The transfer fees will also be over a period as well though. So we get circa £100m this year, probably paid out in fees around £35m this year. Next year we may get about £50m if we go down but we already spent around £10m in transfer fees and so on. Wages are the big thing that kills relegated clubs not the transfer fees.

From what I have seen of him, I think Morelos is a very good player at his current level (32 goals in 65 games) and one who could become a very good player at a higher level if he can smooth out his issues. His problems are disciplinary/mental as opposed to to technical.

He’s only 23, and at a rumored £15m would represent a decent purchase for a goal scorer at today’s values. It’s worth noting Rangers picked him up for £1m-ish from Finland.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he moved to someone abroad, continued his scoring and went to the Prem in a couple of seasons for big money.
